FYI this is the nouveau driver no one uses. There is absolutely no reason to use an nvidia card and this driver.

It’s generally easier because the drivers are built in. Nvidia is perfectly usable, but it’s more susceptible to breaking during kernel updates. It’s not as bad as everyone makes it sound though. That said, AMD is usually the way to go on Linux unless your use case requires Nvidia.

We need to sanction these fuckers. If you own a business, stop doing business with them. Don’t conduct any kind of transaction with them. Refuse service, tell them to leave your establishment, etc. Stop dating these losers, hanging out with them, etc. If you have one as your neighbor, give them the cold shoulder. These people live among us. Find out who they are and isolate them as much as possible. Don’t invite their kids to birthday parties, kick their kids out of sports leagues, etc. Be calm, polite and firm.

It's 100% bullshit. There were problems with this pistol pretty much immediately after it was released. There were scattered reports of accidental discharges and anybody who knew anything about firearms was avoiding it. I can only imagine what those documents will show and it's not good.

I would love to not pay property taxes. The problems cited in the article are real. But where do they plan to get the revenue from? It has to come from somewhere, and how do we know it won’t be worse than property taxes? They need to tell us the rest of the plan. Municipalities rely on that revenue. I’m concerned DeSantis is doing this to exert control over counties and cities he doesn’t like. I don’t want to live in a place with crumbling infrastructure and no money for schools just because little Napoleon DeSantis doesn’t like the local policies residents voted for. It’s become impossible to take anything he says at face value.

I thought we moved past that complaint 20 years ago. It’s not as if you won’t indent your code anyway.

We are getting the National Guard in Florida.

I don’t know if it’s a lack of guns that makes Chicago a target so much as it’s a high profile blue city that’s been getting a bad rap for a long time. A lot of people who haven’t been there believe it’s a shithole. I live in Florida and work in Chicago. I expected a crime filled hellscape when I went there for the first time. It turns out it’s beautiful, a chill place, and you can walk down the street safely at night. I’m sure there are pockets that are really bad, but it’s not like you turn a corner and stumble into one. Meanwhile, you have cities all over Florida that are more of a dump, with drugged out zombies, hobos, crime, and crumbling infrastructure.

The internet has been broken for at least a couple decades. The Fediverse is about the closest thing to the old internet.

There hasn't been a better time before now and I think it will keep getting better. Linux used to be about making a lot of compromises. Now, it's legitimately good on the desktop, although it's admittedly still geared towards power users and developers.

I switched to a Mac right around when OS X was first released. Software was sometimes a little bit of an issue with things being Windows-only, but you could generally find something comparable on the Mac. During the next few years, it became increasingly common for developers to offer a Mac version alongside the Windows version and it changed everything. All of a sudden, Mac wasn't a platform where you were going to run into a bunch of compatibility issues and people started adopting it.

That's what Linux feels like these days. It's finally reached the point of having enough market share that you don't feel like a second class citizen using it. It is THE premier platform for developers and power users in the same way Mac became popular with developers 20-25 years ago. It's the target platform for many developers considering it powers virtually the entire internet and a billion mobile devices. Also, what Valve did with Proton can't be overstated. Their work on Proton and the Steam Deck is really a watershed moment for Linux. I think we are on the verge of seeing some decent Linux growth on the desktop.

On Vivaldi, I only use the built in filtering. Is that not good enough? I’m able to block everything I was using ublock origin for. I also block ads at the DNS level.

I have the latest Framework 13 and I had a ThinkPad before this. I can recommend either of them. The Framework is one of my favorite computers I’ve had, but it’s not cheap. You will save some money if you ever have to make repairs, but I don’t know how the TCO works out for upgrades. It’s more about empowerment and reducing waste though.

Linux runs fine on both the Framework and the ThinkPad. You can pretty much just take your pick of distros and they should work, although you may want to stick with one of the more up to date distros on Framework because it has new hardware. Fedora, Arch-based, Tumbleweed all work well.

I wonder how useful this training data is. There has to be a lot of bullshit in there. I mean, these are conversations where a human asked an AI that's essentially a bullshit generator because they didn't know the answer. How valuable could their input possibly be?

The point is it's a dumb, old argument that apparently hasn't affected adoption of the language. Python is immensely useful and significant whitespace is a big, fat nothingburger. It's just silly to still be debating it after all these years. The time for that was like 30 years ago.
