I like my Apollo air 1. I have an alert set for when the air quality is poor for over 30 minutes, but mostly it just shows up after I made toast.
@lemmy.world
We need different terms for people who HAVE a million dollars and people who MAKE a million per year. Lots of people will read this millionaire's tax and think it will apply to them when they are nearing retirement since they finally have a million dollars after saving all their life.
For like 10 years my work didn't want to pay as many pharmacist hours so offered 30 hour full time roles for the slower stores. I rode that wave as long as I could. It's a really stressful job, but at 30 hours it felt like I had a rough job. At 40+ hours it feels like I have a rough life. I'm fully in support of this 32 hour workweek. Those extra few hours won back can be magical for physical health, mental health, hobbies. I even got an extra degree in computer science.
We had a guy and the pizza shop I worked show up and ask for a job. He had just driven from New Jersey to South Florida to set up a new life. He wanted full time, a privilege that was rarely awarded. But he gave full availability and showed clear dedication to the job. He got the job. He was our best and most energetic employee for over a year.
Then one day he said "alright guys it's been real, but I want to move to California now." And he did, the next week. I feel like that guy will do well no matter where he goes.
I think a big issue is that the government takes a decades long view. This is great because they can plan how to effectively manage our water and other large scale projects with longevity in mind.
Meanwhile, our corporate CEOs take a quarter of a year view. They'd burn the company to the ground as long as it happens after they are stepping down and makes them look good beforehand.
I don't think they are afraid of losing anything specific. It's ingrained at this point.
"If you made straight A's and someone else made straight F's, how would you feel if you both ended up with C's? That's fair right? No? Welcome to the Republican Party. Isn't everyone who doesn't agree with this an idiot? I'm glad we aren't idiots."
I grew up homeschooled and the Christian curriculum my parents used had similar feeling brainwashing tactics. "Scientists searched their whole lives to disprove the Bible, then ended up Christians instead!" Making you feel smart for not wasting your life like the other guy, you are already in the "good" group.
No they pearl clutch and love America and the democracy it has. But they have been taught that Democrats/Liberals are horrible, disgusting people. It's a knee jerk reaction at this point. My brother, who is hardcore maga, said "no I don't think they are talking about you. You aren't a 'liberal'". Like he was saving me from a terrible slur. And I had to nicely tell him that I am, in fact, liberal.
It kind of feels like the hatred against "the gays" in the 90s. They need someone to hate and right now it's the Democrats and liberals, and I guess everyone else the media has told them to hate (lgbtq, trans, etc).
I wish all inclusive resorts were more common in the US. I love cruises but they are SO bad for the environment. We are floating a whole hotel across the sea for very little reason. What I really love about them is like 80% just the all inclusive resort parts. Put that resort near a cool hiking mountain or other fun stuff and my "excursions" for the day will be just as fun, and I don't have to kill the environment to get there!
Oh bonus idea: either all inclusive "resort" train, or connect these resorts via train for the adventure aspect.
Cool cool cool. So since it looks like a Nazi salute and was maybe accidental, he will surely apologize for the appearance and make sure no one misunderstands and thinks he is green lighting Naziism. That would be a good way to know. Should not take more than 24 hours. Even a tweet would help. Or a Xit or whatever we should call it now.
I like all the comments about burnout and addressing that. When I was in a similar mindset, I would dream of hiking the pct. 6 months on a trail where all I had to worry about was walking. Or I could take a 0 day and enjoy camp. Slow paced life. I even bought books and learned the equipment I would need. Spent vacations testing that equipment and adjusting to what I actually needed. I remember coming back from five nights out staying in a camping hammock and being amazed at the "palace" I live in comparatively.
I could go at any time I felt work was absolutely too much. I almost did. For some reason, having all that knowledge and feeling like I could go was enough of a mental break for me to carry on.
At least consider doing one of the long trails. It might address your burnout and give you the feeling of closeness to nature you are looking for. Maybe you will want to do a homestead after that. Maybe that hike will be enough. Worth a consideration anyways.
During the primaries we can and should try to make our voice heard to get the most perfect candidates possible on the ballot. During election we do what we must to prevent sliding further into authoritarianism.
They are bracing for the voters to finally turn on them. Commit fraud? It's fine my gas is cheap. Sex with children? Eh whatever I don't want to consider if that's true or not as long as my gas is cheap. Bomb a school overseas? Whatever you've gotta do to keep my gas cheap. GAS PRICES ARE UP?! WTF IS THIS ADMINISTRATION DOING?! VOTE THEM OUT.
It's sickening, but it seems the price of gas is really all that matters to the Republican voter.
I think this is better presented as:
"Oh wait you are FOR fascism?"
"No I'm just against antifa."
"There is no like, regulating body for this 'antifa'. It's just what the fascists labeled anyone who isn't supporting fascism. If you aren't a fascist, then you are antifa."
thanks for using Leebra!
