That's hilarious and I had never heard of it, sure enough, Volvo has a factory moose crash-test dummy.

The human safety supervisor of a Tesla Robotaxi who crashed was apparently sleep deprived and having a mental health episode, so, if you think self-driving cars will insulate you from human foibles, just you wait. The futures going to get real weird!
Broadly I agree, though. The goal is better-than-human. It really shouldn't ever cross a solid line, though.
That was this case, it's all self-reported so take it with a grain of salt, but it was interesting food for thought: https://electrek.co/...
y'all not got bendy bollards? most bollards are bendy.
is that just a Chicago thing? they don't trust us with solid bollards, it would be a mass-casualty-incident instantly
A non-existent car is ALSO safer than a human-driven car, so it'll sound weird coming from an automotive journalist, but I totally agree. There's no car safer than a railway car.

I actually looked into that...!
The Google Maps interface lets you see when the street was imaged. It's been that way since 2024, at least. A helpful Redditor shared the link to it.

I'm bad as an automotive journalist. What I lack in skill, I make up for with effort and comedic timing
I'm honestly surprised that a Tesla Model Y fit in this gap. Maybe it ran over the first bollard a bit?

Edit: And, IDK, "managed to get out appropriately" in this case would unfortunately mean throwing it in reverse and doubling back through the cross-walk, I think. It's never a good idea to run stuff over to get where you're going.
This is how it do.
Also, hey, Taco gang, lfg!
I'm sure this will work wonders for American soft power on the world stage.
Having a literal fucking queen with fond memories of America from her youth is political influence that money cannot buy. What an idiotic fumble.
His kid isn't dead, she just doesn't go by that name anymore, and it is supremely dickish to treat her like that.
"What could a childcare cost, ten dollars?"

"But humans can do it with their eyes!" - says the man not selling a human brain to go with the optical sensors
I thought that was to economize for expenses?!
So naturally they started with 5 employees in the smallest office of one of the smallest divisions of the NHTSA. Nooooo ulterior motive, nosiree
Gentrified forest is the most cursed phrase I heard in a minute.
This got me thinking, you're right, how can it be a boat if it can't float?
Turns out, everything is bigger in Texas, including the legal definition of what constitutes a boat.
Is it motorized, above 14 feet in length, and afloat, docked, or stored on Texas waters? Then it's a boat that needs to be registered, fam.
The scientists in Ireland calling their data set to prevent this exact fucking thing "Coyote" sent me over the moon.
Accurate.
Each fatality I found where a Tesla kills a motorcyclist is a cascade of 3 failures.
Taking out the driver will make this already-unacceptably-lethal system even more lethal.
I should mention, my Spanish is good enough that I can say "Real Hasta La Muerte" does not mean just "Till Death."
It means "Royal until death."
And Royal (Real in Spanish) is the name of the largest football club out of Madrid, so there is a very high likelihood that it just means "I like this football club until I die." Their symbol is a crown, which is separately claimed as a Tren de Agua symbol, and so Real fans might be gettin swept up in ICE raids in the USA.
It would be funny if the victims weren't getting indefinite stays in a foreign gulag, but that is where it stands today.
^--- it's worse than the news is letting on.
