Linus is saying that using an LLM doesn't absolve you of taking responsibility for what you publish.
I am extremely anti-LLM for basically everything but even I can see this moral panic for what it is. Sadly not the first time David Gerard (the author of this blog) has fallen into it.
Oh sorry, sure yeah I wasn't talking about careers. I was only speaking of volunteers specifically. Claude is cheap right now but when it becomes full price I don't think most people doing video game decomps will want to pay for it.
Is that just a feeling? Because my feeling is that the foss movement is entering a golden age even when you take into consideration all of the slop coding getting posted
Honestly, what would be nice is for a community like this to serve as gatekeeper with high standards for decomp projects to meet. Sure 99% won't make it in but who cares?
I know we're in the Wild West days right now but eventually things will settle. If the foss community can find a way to make torrents organized safe and accessible they can do anything.
Sure yeah I guess if you want to consider a single video game community shutting down to be "widespread repercussions" you certainly have that right, but I don't think we'll be able to find common ground on this topic. Have a good one!
Eh, I'm really not worried. The decomps are interesting as a proof of concept, but they really really aren't very good, and once the VC funding runs out and the vibe coders have to invest actual money, you'll see a big decrease in these decomps and vibe coded apps. The world of foss will largely return to the hands of the people who actually care about the quality of their code.
So I don't disagree, but at the same time I also don't see many people relying on these vibe-coded apps, or including them in crucial points within software stacks. For example if a vibe-coded Mario Kart decomp project gets orphaned it doesn't really have widespread repercussions.
This is great advice but doesn't get around that fact that sodatreams themselves are cheap plastic, have weak valves and don't last super long. I have seen all-metal carbonators for sale online but they're $$$ and I'm also not sure how easy they are to convert to a larger tank.
This is definitely not "BIFL" advice but sodastreams are cheap and usually there's one or two at thrift stores so it's not the end of the world if one breaks.
I hate this because I agree. Before the X-Files nearly all conspiracy culture had some racist undertones and if you trace nearly any "classic" conspiracy theory back far enough you inevitably get to something involving the Jews.
Basically the whole point of Conspiracy Theory culture was a means of recruiting non-racists into unwittingly advancing racist goals and The X-Files absolutely took that particular bait despite absolutely not actively promoting a racist message.
"Aggressive bans", please. Half the site is the most obnoxious people you've ever met and the other half are bots. Normal people on reddit represent a statistically insignificant percent of users. I would love it if they could be aggressive with bans.
thanks for using Leebra!
