People are (understandably) upset about the fact that Bluesky won’t ban Jesse Signal. Signal has been criticized for his weird/hateful views/writings on trans people: https://techcrunch.com/....
But the controversy also underlines ongoing tensions between the company and some of its most vocal users. It’s a tension that could be seen last month in skeptical responses to the company’s updated community guidelines, and in recurring complaints that Bluesky has been too quick to ban Palestinian and trans users, while offering leniency to big accounts like Singal’s.
Hey Karim! Thank you for your work on SFA, really enjoying the show!
Star Trek has done a bunch of genre-bending episodes (mostly on the holodeck), like noir-type crime stories, medieval costume dramas, or western adventures. If you could chose: What genre/setting would you like to put Jay-Den into?
As someone whose dissertation is on conspiracy theories, I gotta say: The writers did a great job at essentially summarizing the current literature:
“I thought you were just a paranoid anxiety made up by people who needed an imagined enemy to simulate order on unrelated disasters so life doesn't feel so random and chaotic!” (Boimler, S04E08)
I really enjoyed despising Kai Winn. She’s such a broken character, always choosing the wrong side and still being completely convinced that her way is without alternative.
Still, I had some level of empathy with her (the gods she, in a way dedicated her love to, never chose her, never spoke to her and when she finally received visions, it was demons deceiving her). Fletchers performance is just the best.
I like seeing the personal growth of these characters kicking in early. And that we don’t only focus on Caleb. When’s my Jay-den episode coming?
And while I didn’t think I‘d like the post-burn setting, it gives our characters a reason to reiterate what Star Fleet and the Federation stand for. In the classic shows, there wasn’t really a reason so argue what the federation is supposed to be (because it was objectively extremely successful the way it was). I enjoy seeing our characters rebuilding this utopia.
There is an actual RFC for "IP over Avian Carriers with Quality of Service" that was released on April fools day 1999.
There are some fantastic diagrams in there:
Character’s name is Ensign Travis Mayweather and he’s played by Anthony Montgomery :)
Everybody’s favorite space boomer!
I’m currently rewatching DS9 so I enjoyed this episode thoroughly. The show’s really growing on me.
I’d love to know if it actually resonates with audiences in the age group our cadets are in.
And Tawny Newsome as Professor Illa (last name redacted) was a treat!
I have mixed feelings towards SFA (as I have with any Star Trek show), but they really should give these new experimental shows some time to find their groove.
I still wonder what ENT would have become if it had gotten the full seven seasons …
thanks for using Leebra!
