YSK, it's not open source. It's not even source available for that matter. They've promised to go open source for a while now, but not much progress has been made.

TBH, I'm more mad about agregious choice of font than the lack of meme / use of AI for problem solving.

Proton hate circle jerk bouta go crazy.

Proton was forced by Swiss courts to hand over the very little info they had. The user used a traceable payment method, rather than something anonymous such as monero. Nothing like email content was handed over. This is a nothing burger.

It's opt-in.

Yeah, the part that makes you money is. Still have to manually disable all of the popups and icons begging you to use it.

You just described every single internet service that you're not actively paying for.

Difference is those sites don't necessarily advertise themselves as "privacy respecting"

I'm not sure anyone should let a walking case of CTE have a Twitter account.

This kind of mindset is what make the privacy community seem like outcasts. Yes, pedophiles and other criminals would benefit from complete anonymity, but that does not mean we should draw the line at how anonymous someone gets to be because “only pedos operate at that level”.

Mailbox.org doesn't have the option for anonymous payments beyond payments in cash, which was the reason for the article in the first place.
