America has two authoritarian right-wing parties to pick from. One is less right wing than the other, but they're still both to the right of the major right wing party in my country (New Zealand)

I live in the far north and they'd be better off increasing the heavy rail capacity to get all the fucking logging trucks off the road. Will fix some of the pothole problems too - they created that mess by increasing the weight limits on large vehicles under the last National government, now they get to winge about Labour not fixing it. Standard right wing strategy.
My cousin was taken off her mother because of the cola thing.
Awww yeah, first time I got in first with the daily thread.
I don't have anything interesting to talk about but I like reading about everyone's days. I only have to do a half day of work today to hit my hours for the week, so that's nice. Gonna play more Baldurs Gate when I get home, such a good game.

🛠️ memes aside, I'm a software developer and I don't trust software-only systems with no fallback. Too many moving parts that can go wrong.
I did it! Posting from the treadmill now 😅
My kid woke me up at 3:30 this morning for snuggles. I didn't get back to sleep til 6 but he certainly got a sleep 😬
It's struggle town at work today
This isn't going to fix anything except make sure that the gig economy continues to fuck workers. I say that as someone covered by this potential legislation- there's clear rules around who counts as an independent contractor and I've never had problems keeping to those rules because I want to retain my status as independent. You can't contract out of things like the CGA or basic labour laws, and that should continue to apply here. Seymour is cutting the courts ability to decide on the edge cases in favour of a broad brush that will absolutely result in more "independent" contractor gigs cropping up and further downwards pressure on workers and wages.
I need to get up and go to the gym but it's raining outside and warm in my bed. At least it's Friday.
Hacker News has a monthly Whose Hiring thread which has a remote tag in the template. There's a website that pulls all the comments out and makes it into a job board of sorts but I can't remember what it is.
Had something like this and it was fine but in a late 90s house and in Wellington so the wind covered a lot of noise so YMMV.
On a windless day we could hear only hear the neighbours via the windows - out theirs and in ours. Nothing except a massive party would go through the firewall.
Obviously!
I didn't put too much in my intro as I don't think I'm all that interesting and I didn't want people to think I was getting a big head. Short version of my relevant bio:
Just to flip this, do you have any sources that horseshoe theory is a real thing? That's the funny thing about language, someone put Theory in the name and now people think it's a real thing.
To save you the trouble, it hasn't held up under academic study. Plenty of info on Wikipedia about it.
100% this
They did the last time as well.
Sorry brother, the hive mind detected wrongthink and you have been punished for it.
I know we have fuck all people up here but a service from Northland to Auckland would be nice.
Tech has an abundance of people who really need to be right in an argument. I've had this same argument with a developer at a client company of mine. Just couldn't let it go when I said I was comfortable with the Jetbrains suite and used their language specific tooling instead of VSCode.
Sounds like a job for logrotate. It does more than just log files, kinda average name I guess. Checkout this server fault q&a for more details. https://serverfault.com/...
I agree with the Greens that it's an ambulance at the bottom of the cliff, but our local food bank has gotten a lot out of the current round of extra money and it's really needed.
thanks for using Leebra!
