I can see your comments too. You think yelling about that stuff here is not wasting your time?

You absolutely do post misinformation. I don't care that you check out my profile. I'm pissed off. I'm pissed off lookin at people like you who do nothing but bitch about the world who also act like the biggest culturally relevant platforms aren't important cause you get the ick.

Meanwhile the right are doing stuff like this while you write "fuck Trump" under your 200th c/politics news post or wonder why "buy Canadian" isn't taken off.

The platforms will always have power regardless if the left is there or not. The only difference is if the left is there to actually push back against this slop.

The algorithms don't matter. They push the same stuff to the same people. In fact the algorithms are helpful since it can drive more people to content based on engagement. But if the only engagement is from the right that is all people will see. It's a numbers game. You are wrong and not only are you wrong, you can see the consequences just from where we are now. Just wait until the kids today grow up. The left is in a worse position every year because of views like yours

The limit will basically be if the right wing people turn on him because you guys aren't doing shit fuck all. The best that the left can hope for is for people on the right having a "come to Jesus" moment and wanting to stop him cause they will. Lemmy users can post about it when it happens

No the goal is to drive the left off these platforms. You have played into their hand.

Cut the shit. This comment is played the fuck out. People like you will say "just go outside, log offline" then next comment is bitching about your parents talking about kitty litter or you try to raise awareness for some invasive bill or illegal action by the government. Nothing I said involves spending your life online. It's saying to spend the time that you are online more wisely. It's asking to stop being outplayed by the right wing.

So cut the smug comment. It's time to wake the fuck up. I can appreciate if you just don't want nothing to do with political issues or vote or want anything to change because you enjoy the way things are. That's fine. But don't come here telling others to be as inefficient and Blaise as you.

The left as a whole need to do some work for a change instead of being lazy up until they want something. There is an election coming up and the left is already years behind the right

Where you fighting that fight because everybody who seems to care is also removing themselves from all social media. They keep saying they're doing things locally like ....

Meeting in coffee shops?

Like weirdly I've had this phrase said to me multiple times and it's so silly. Hold on guys I'm going to release a new movie I spent years making. I refuse to use the space with millions of people cause I don't like who created it. I'm going to stand around Starbucks and tell people about it. Find me 40 years to build up a cult following

Because you can't make a post here that doesn't get over 200 votes.

That's such a foolish thing to say. Your whole point hinges on "wasting time" yet you're too ignorant to see the waste of time is doing anything in person or on lemmy without first securing a solid way to communicate what you're doing. This is why every single effort by the left has failed. And it's such a piss off that many of the left continue this insanity as if you're too good for the platforms that are used to communicate. You can get a single post on lemmy that gets over a few hundred views. A single comment on Facebook or reddit or Instagram gets thousands. It's fine to not use these but stop lying to yourself. You're wasting your time and you'll continue to suffer the consequences of removing yourself from where people actually are.

Yea it's insane. We need to get back to the idea that anyone is replaceable. That's the safest they can be when people realizes any successful attempts wouldn't even matter.

Which is kind of my point. The ideologies are more important than the open source because without it open source is not open source. It will strangle itself out.

They can't even bother to keep the content sharing alive. I haven't heard a fucking peep about this since the week this happened.

imagine being alive in an era where you have access to a literal information sharing device. A massive force multiplier. Knowing full well everybody else is using it to attack you. Yet deciding the best course of action is to just not buy carrots and standing in streets like you're fighting some good fight

Meanwhile I see this stuff everyday. What is the left fucking doing. They're stuck in the 1960s

Go ahead and downvote. That's the extent of effort you're barely willing to put into any of this while someone's uncle made this photo and shared it on 30 different groups across multiple social media

That's fair. I'm salty because maybe I'm a little on the spectrum and just get tired by having one part of an position scrutinized when it's not a critical part. I understand open source has many different licenses. But you don't have open source without FOSS. Additionally, Open source was born out of business needing these licenses to buy in. Therefore open source is driven by business and it's only surviving until they don't need it. Which is what happens when the culture abandoned is FOSS roots.

Business and profits should be terrified of the internet. Everything not bolted down should be replicated and shared. Music, documents, software, trade secrets, text books, shows, movies.

Everything.

Now you're getting semantic. Stopping conversation here as I get the impression that you're arguing from trying to win over trivial points vs honest discussion.

I'm well aware the difference and it doesn't change anything here.

My argument is not entirely that everything at all times should be free. Therefore for you to focus on this is not a good use of our time. Points have all been made. I don't have much else to say. I'm done here. Have a good one

Without the ideology there would be no open source. It's like saying you can have churches without religion. You take the religion away, you'll still have the building but it's a matter of time before they're gone.

I am speaking of both FOSS and open source. As I said earlier these environments only exist so long as business can profit from it. This is because like you said the heart of what created the environments is gone. When business has a new model, like building what open source can with AI, then it'll die out too. There's a reason the more business friendly one is thriving.

That's what happens when generations ignore their roots

Yea which is not just targeted at right wing people. They likely have just as much aimed at the left. They may even want people on the left to remove themselves from the conversation so the machine doesn't need to spend as much energy spreading it's message. If the people who would call them out or challengé them are gone then it benefits them.
