Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

The US have a shitstorm coming. That's what you get when you let a toddler play with the control knobs of the country.

Another very interesting point is how China made themselves so powerful. Anything with electronics needs some sort of resource from China. China is a very big and powerful player.

We should wonder if we want t be this dependant on one country for all our tech needs. I think the answer is no....

Well, I have seen 2 Labradoodles from the same nest. Two familymembers decided to take one.

They both bark at every little fucking sound, no matter what you do, they both have random moments where they could start biting you.

One of them is just straight up agressive if a man makes a sudden move and needs to be locked up if I come to do a small job in the house.

They definitely need to be trimmed and their behavior issues are very annoying. So if this guy regrets making Labradoodles? Me too, buddy, I regret you actions too.

I get that it looks risky, but I don't really see a problem here. The platform is in undisturbed water, no waves, no sudden changes. If the platform is strong enough, which it seems to be to me, it will not easily tip over.

I've worked on a few lifts like that, and if you manage to tip one over I can only say that you were either really stupid or you were trying to do it. All the weight is at the bottom. They are very stable.

The only way to make them fall over is if your floor is not level while driving. Driving is out of the question in this picture, and as long as both guys stay in the fork lift the center of gravity will not change much.

So the platform will not move, the lift will not move, basically they are fine.

If something was to happen you're fucked though.

And different solutions are available. I've personally been in a different lift that had an arm so the lift would be a the side of the pool and the part where I was standing was elevated above the water. That probably would be a better solution, if you have enough space to get one of those lifts in.

Yea, well...for the heavy lifting it could be nice. But I'm not letting AI build my house.

Lifting heay crap to the roof or something like that? Sure. That is what machines are good at.

Welding? Well welding robots have existed for long time, they just need to programmed perfectly. I've worked with a couple of them, the results are not always consistent and they required some quality checks. It is easier. Manual welding takes more skill and takes longer. I just don't need the AI part though. That makes it unpredictable. And if I let a robot do something, it should be predictable.

I do woodworking and fixing around the house. Even when building new stuff, there are always issues that you have to solve on the spot. Walls that are not straight, angles that are not perfect, spaces you cannot reach et cetera.

As long as AI does not get it 100% right every time it is not touching my house. And yes, a professional doesn't reach that rate either, but at least they know and doublecheck themselves and know how to fix things.

The problem is people are only going to change their behaviour once the consequences hit them, and with global warming, the consequences won't really hit them until a long time later.

The second problem is the consequences are dramatic. And very hard if not impossible to turn around.

To really get people and companies to change their behaviour, we would need an immediate consequence to behaviour that is bad for the environment.

Bottom line is, some people try, some people don't give a shit, and in the end we will have to deal with it.

I hope governments are watching carefully, we will need to keep a lot of water away from us in the future, and we'll have to deal with the changing climate too.

My expectations? I guess I expected I could have at least half of what my parents had. Which I almost can. They afforded the house on one salary and my mom stayed at home. Me and my gf both have to have full time jobs. But, we can only pay a smaller house.

My parents had five kids and sometimes struggled with money. We have one kid, two salaries and still struggle with money. For basic stuff. Just food and drinks and stuff you need. And the occasional bottle of wine or whisky.

So I guess I got around half of what my parents had. What I would have hoped for is that if two people work 40 hours a week and most of the time more, we would not have to struggle. I would have hoped we could save some money.

I would have hoped that I would not be waiting with service for my motorcycle until I have the money. Or be anxious about the yearly review of my car, because there could be high costs to get it approved another year.

I don't mind working, I don't mind working extra, I don't mind working hard. But right now it feels like I get nothing in return. It's just expected, and you get to survive. That's it. You want more? A little more space in your house, or a little bit more time for yourself? Can't be done. And that is frustrating.

Edit: seems people agree with me, thanks for the support.

You're not an asshole. The way you treat a dog makes a huge difference. Unfortunately these two are treated like kids. One of the family members wanted to get a husky at first, at least we managed to steer them away from that.

So yes, they are also not good dog owners. But we also had labradors and they were treated the same but never were agressive. Never. Dumb? Absolutely. Happy goofballs? Absolutely. And a lot better as doodles.

Both of the doodles have issues with allergies and skin stuff. And food. They are very peculiar about the food. Allergic to half of it, and some of what they can handle they just don't eat because they don't like it.

Both family members have racked up considerable cost at the vet. The health issues are real. Especially when we did not have the different energies figured out.

And really, what kind of dog is allergic to fucking grass? Grass, of all things??

TLTR: don't get a doodle, get a real dog. And train it properly. Cheers.

It's actually a classic programmer move to start over again. I've read the book "Clean Code" and it talks about a little bit.

Appereantly it would not be the first time that the new start turns into the same mess as the old codebase it's supposed to replace. While starting over can be tempting, refactoring is in my opinion better.

If you refactor a lot, you start thinking the same way about the new code you write. So any new code you write will probably be better and you'll be cleaning up the old code too. If you know you have to clean up the mess anyways, better do it right the first time ....

However it is not hard to imagine that some programming languages simply get too old and the application has to be rewritten in a new language to ensure continuity. So I think that happens sometimes.

YouTube is simply squeezing hard now.

They are big enough that 90% of the people who do look at videos do it there. So a video that is posted elsewhere simply does not get the exposure that it does on YouTube.

That gives them a lot of power. And they use it to squeeze as much money as possible from anyone they can. Now, if they would do big squeezes, people would notice and they would at least try to find other sites.

So just like abuse, it's a slow process of tearing little barriers down of what is acceptable, until at some point users one by one start to realize it has all turned to shit.

But that is going to take a lot of time, and until that happens we are just going to see more reports about all the things YouTube does.

We will keep seeing angry nerds upset about it, and they will block ads and work around it. But nothing else will change. And that is such a small part of the userbase of YouTube that they don't even feel it.

So I'm going to block ads, watch what I want to watch as long as the site is usuable without ads, and I will stop using the site when ads can no longer be blocked. YouTube is simply not that important to me.

I worked in a glasshouse for a while. Since everything is glass, and the temperature is pretty high, the new guy went to change his pants from long ones to short ones. The son of the boss, who just started recently, decided he did not like it and fired him on the spot.

I thought it was really stupid. Unfortunately there was no talking him out of it. The guy was hard to work with, and part of the reason I quit that job later.

I really hope my car holds out for a long time, because fuck ads in my car. I don't want my car to listen to anything but the controls I use to drive.

Is there really anybody who thinks they would like that?

I just got this mail. They are very funny. It is clear that they are trying to generate money by adding features, but the whole point is that I don't need more features.

I just need the program as it is, hell, they can still take more functionality away and it will still work for me just fine. I just use it for small projects, maybe twice a year.

If the free version ever goes away, I'll just learn some other program. There might be a learning curve, but I don't mind.

And I understand that they need to make money, and they have every right to charge whatever they want. But mails like this make them look desperate for cash.

If they really don't want too, don't have a free product. Then everybody knows what is up.

The benefit: you no longer have to pay staff or rent for that studio. Take the IP's, what else of value is there really? The rest is just a burden.

Most of them are not bought to ensure their future or as an investment. They are bought to take the IP and eliminate a competitor or threat.

It's sad, but that's the problem with big companies with huge wallets. They'll push people out of a job and won't loose any sleep over it either.

At least that is what I think.

Where is that comic about standards now that we need it? The one where they create a new standard that is going to solve all the problems, except for now there is just one more standard??

Dude, just start looking. Don't wait for somebody else to leave, be that person.

If somebody else leaves, your workload will increase even more while you try to find a new job. Just take the initiative. And next time, be quicker about it too. Protect yourself.

Mine already reboots every night. It's a setting I can change on my OnePlus.

I enabled it long ago. A reboot will also kill anything that is running in your memory like a page mining crypto or a virus that has not yet gotten to your file system yet. Or at least I'd like to think so....

Anyways, the reboot also insured that if my phone is ever taken from me, after 24 hours max they will have to both enter my PIN and my phone security code. I wish them good luck. There's not much interesting stuff on my phone, but that does not mean I want everyone to have free access too it.
