It's weird these numbers are so small, it should feel dead. But there are a lot of great discussions and a lot of good laughs to be had here.
The level of engagement for the very small numbers here must be quite impressive.
I guess it's the old quality vs quantity.
Thanks, a sensible action to take.
I hadn't been exposed to it, but it sounds like something I don't want to see.
Wow.
What a nightmare this whole thing is turning out to be. I mean, imagine being the CEO right now. You want to seem strong, you don't want to back down, but every day the chaos seems to get crazier.
Imagine the pressure right now.
I'm spending way more time!
I didn't really like the community in Reddit that much. I used it more like a news feed. So I never read 'all', I just read my subs for a few minutes here and there, but I didn't post and comment much.
Since coming here I post and comment a lot more. There seems to be more proper discussion here, despite being much smaller and quieter.
Connect for Lemmy.
It's being updated to add features and fix bugs pretty much daily. Which means it is improving at a crazy speed.
It's come a long way since I first started using it - about 3 days ago!
Yes, Connect For Lemmy had this.
Some will.
Not sure how big a number that some will be though.
For people that use 3rd party apps, suddenly they won't work. They'll try the Reddit app, some won't be happy when they see how it looks and some of those will look at alternatives.
Quite possibly some users have already heard about something called Lemmy, but haven't been bothered to leave Reddit. If their app stops working, that might be enough to make them take a look.
There will be a bit of a surge. It won't suddenly be millions.
For "official" Android products, maybe eventually.
In fact I can see a future where all computing/devices are locked down and become appliances, much like your tv or fridge.
You use them how you're "meant to". Sideloading? Programming? Tweaking? Why do you need to do that, are you a terrorist?
I hope we don't get to that world, but for a while now I've been thinking it looks like a possible outcome.
Hey, don't give them any ideas!
I've never had a Facebook or Instagram account in my life. But I do use WhatsApp because it's the main way most friends and family communicate (Australia).
I would not be happy if I found out I suddenly had a Threads account that my friends could follow without me even signing up, just because I use WhatsApp!
This.
I use Adguard, if a site blocks me for it, then it goes on a black list of "never visit" sites.
In a few cases, if I use and like/support a specific site a lot and that site is ad supported with no other ad-free option, then I white list it.
But to read the odd crappy article? No I'm not disabling my ad blocker.
Two things I can see.
Life in the developed world getting tougher and the middle class is shrinking
Social media seems to make people unhappier and angrier
Anna's Archive?
I only found out about it on here recently and I've been able to find a couple of quite obscure titles on there.
Including one that had never been released as an ebook Seems someone has scanned it.
Yes, they are less prevalent due to Reddit and other social media sucking up a lot of the users.
They are still around though. One Australian forum that I've been on for years which is still very active is Whirlpool. Started as a tech forum and expanded. It's very useful as source of info as it's been around over 20 years and a lot of questions have been asked and answered there.
Why?
Posts should have the ability to be promoted or buried, to help highlight interesting stuff.
But why people? I don't get it. Isn't this place more like a forum than a social network?
Leave that crap for Facebook etc..
Yeah, I really liked the movie and it's hard to describe exactly why.
It's not an amazing story, or amazing characters, it's not exciting....but it has a certain vibe/mood to it that I liked.
I was also a bit fascinated by Japan, so that's part of it. Got to visit a couple of times in the years after seeing the movie and whenever I've been in a Tokyo hotel room it's reminded me of the film!
Once I got used to gestures, I couldn't go back.
I honestly find it very fast and intuitive.
Does that person who has been pre-followed then get a notification to join and respond/follow back?
Because that would be a great way to boost the new service exponentially.
How are you doing that?
Do you mean just manually copying a link, switching into the Mastodon app and pasting it in, or is there a better method?
I don't think we need it.
You can already see which posts are up/down voted. You can already check a user accounts age and post history.
I don't need more than that.
thanks for using Leebra!
