I'm not completely naive - I know this stuff does happen - but the chances of being kidnapped are far lower than, say, being in a road traffic accident, and yet billions of people drive daily without a second thought, without fear, just assuming everything will be fine.

Most conservatives aren't really economically conservative. They too want police, schools, fire dept, infrastructure etc. to be well funded. There's just also a nebulous idea that "government wastes money" and they don't want their taxes taken.

I forget what it was I said - an instance where it seemed to me Russia was technically in the right about something - and there was a big old pile on and many downvotes.
