Every person involved in a conversation has to be able to hear each other speak. The only one listening to your videos is you.

If you had earphones, you wouldn't need to listen to their discussion anyway, as the earphones would take care of both problems simultaneously, making you the only one that hears your videos, and making sure you can't hear other people's conversations.

Being considerate won't get you noticed, but being inconsiderate certainly will, in all the wrong ways.

There's an episode of South Park where they go to the writing offices of Family Guy for whatever reason, and instead of actual writers, they have an aquarium tank full of manatees and plastic balls with words on them.

The cordcutters subreddit was really nice, users constantly engaging in talks about better alternatives to cable/internet/streaming options.

The lemmy version is like an aquarium full of dead fish that nobody cares to clean out. The only 'poster' is a 'news' bot that just spams every article from cordcutters.com (most of which are just advertisements for deals/discounts).

At this point even ghost towns have more presence and/or engagement. If you block the 'news' bot, there's next-to-nothing there.

Just to add to the topic of transparency: I've noticed that lemmy appears to censor the B word, but there's no mods checking the content (from what I can tell), it just auto changes the word to say "removed."

Oddly enough, the B word seems to be the only word (swear or otherwise) that's censored in such a way.

You can install uBlock in Firefox, I highly recommend. I recently got into the Warhammer series so I'm spending a lot of time reading pages on the Fandom wiki, and the difference is like night and day.
