I had a few classmates from the PRC when I was in college. At the time I criticized them and thought they were weird for only keeping to themselves and not wanting to socialize with people outside their group. Now I think I know why they were like that, and i don’t blame them.

This is exactly why I have an account on lemmy.ml. Lemmygrad is my safe space to come back to when I am sick of seeing braindead lib takes.

They're inhaling lethal amounts of copium in the comments of the original beehaw thread.

"thE aBilItY fOr instANCES To dEFedErate Is THe PoinT ActUaLLy"

Yeah, I hear talk of a lot of instances wanting to block any instance that federates with lemmygrad.

Aesthetically I love Sequoias, but I really love the Eucalyptus trees that grow near my house. They smell so good!

Currently playing the latest Expedition in No Man's Sky

I just dyed my hair purple today, so there's that. I also like painting my nails.

Hello comrades! Like many others I am here because of 'Rexxit'. I'm new to the whole 'fediverse' thing, but I'm learning a lot and really liking the concept. I also really appreciate its leftist roots, which seems to be turning off a lot of libs, which is fine by me tbh. I look forward to being more active here and getting to know the community!

I'm also here to put the 'FED' in 'Fediverse'.

That's amazing, thank you! I originally took it from a cropped version of a compilation image with all of them (Che, Stalin, Mao, etc), so hence the low quality lol.

Lmao, I saw comments like that on Reddit and it only made it sound cooler and got me to actually check it out. Glad I did! Welcome.

I want to, but I am trying to find a way to make a private backup of my saved comments/threads before I do. I have a lot of useful stuff that I saved over the last 12 years that I really don't want to lose. Some have suggested making a GDPR request, but since I am not in the EU Reddit technically doesn't have to comply. Automated tools I have found only purge my data with no way to make a backup first.

I don't remember the exact account as it was many months ago, but yeah I got it from Twitter and I do follow that account, so that might be it.

I don't think that's silly at all. I wasn't aware that some subs were closing only as a joke/ironically, which is pretty shitty if that's the case. Most communities I was a part of are participating in the blackout for legitimate reasons. Hopefully those communities can be rebuilt here, but I understand that's not ideal and can take time. Which sub are you referring to, if I may ask?

I did at first, but the more acclimated I get to Lemmy/Fediverse that feeling has mostly gone away. I'm mostly going to miss the Apollo app, because it was just that good and is where I spent the most time browsing Reddit. I sincerely hope Christian Selig makes a Lemmy app and I will gladly pay for it if he does, but I understand if he wants a break or wants to focus on other projects.
