No, I'm pointing out the concept of sampling bias. There are no doubt valid criticisms of the Iranian government as there are with every government.

When I hear Iranian immigrants on cable news being like "it's good the U.S. is bombing the homes of people I used to live with" I'm like "that's a crazy take". more precisely "why would someone wish something so horrible on their former neighbor".

Just cause you lived somewhere for a while doesn't mean you know what is best for the people still living there. It may imply a certain level of knowledge. But those people can still have bad takes --just like Americans can have bad takes about America-- and those bad takes can be biased by the particular experience they have had and that's worth considering.

My excuse is that I haven't even finished Disco Elysium yet. Every time I try I play for 2 hours and then have an existential crisis and forget where I was in the game by the time its over.

I give Disco Elysium a 10/10.

That seems like a biased sample set.

You're telling me all the people who have had problems with the government think the government is bad? I'm shocked!

He is partially incorrect in his claim about the 2024 primary. We had a primary in 2024 (not a legitimate one IMHO) but the 2024 primary does demonstrate liberals preferring MAGA over leftists.

The uncommitted movement had ~25 percent of the vote in Michigan which was a swing state the Dems couldn't beat Trump without. The Dems chose to ignore this warning and continue funding the genocide.

The liberals screaming at leftist over the last 18 months stems from leftists having solidarity with the Muslim community in Michigan when the Democratic party abandoned them for their Isreal donors.

Also even if every third party vote had gone to Kamala in every swing state she still would have lost to Trump.

The contension stems partly from liberals unwillingness to think critically about the failures of the democratic party. Preferring party loyalty and rejecting the wishes of the voters over accepting any constructive criticism from the left.

You want to respond by defending the democrats. Perhaps saying people who voted third-party actually support Trump. Any excuse you make for the democrats loss proves the exact point I'm making.

You'll attack the left even when they're offering constructive feedback and even when not listening to your left flank means MAGA winning. In other words, you would rather MAGA win than the left.

I debated bringing this up in my original comment, but there were rumors the reason Nancy Pelosi started pushing so hard for Biden to drop out was; she found out that the internal Democratic Party polling showed Biden losing by hundreds of electoral college votes.

Regardless, your response proves my point maybe better than any other response I’ve received here on Lemmy. As soon as any legitimate criticism pops up you throw black women under the bus rather than letting a leftist win, rather than admit a leftist has a point.

Linux shouldn’t let itself be slutshamed. Linux should proud of what a good little slut it is.

When I was poor and I complained about inequality they said I was bitter. Now I'm rich and I complain about inequality they say I'm a hypocrite. I'm starting to think they just don't want to talk about inequality. —Russell Brand

Still one of my favorite quotes, it’s unfortunate that I won’t really be able to use it any more.

Brand used to be a legit socialist back in the day. The longer he had money, the harder I think was for him to continue to understand the struggle of the common people. Either that or its audience capture like what happened to Dave Rueben.

The YouTube channel the Kavernacle has done some good coverage on his drift to the right.

Yeah, I’m not sure I agree that YouTube wants their platform to shrink. Even if you don’t watch ads you are still giving them your data which they can monetize.

Personally I would be willing to pay for YouTube premium but not under the current terms. 1. If I’m paying for the service they should no longer collect and sell my data. 2. Allow me to have a YouTube-only account not connected to other Google services and 3. The current pricing is a bit high.

They can offer these terms or I’ll continue to use them logged out with Adblock. Or they can continue to enshitify and eventually their platform will start to shrink which will make the data they sell to advertisers less valuable.

She’s also worth 21 million dollars now, when she entered congress she was worth less than half a million. Her stock trading game has rivaled Nancy Pelosi’s since she entered office. This should be the bigger scandal. It’s not because it bipartisan.

Honestly, —assuming there’s no fuckery here, which in fairness is a bold assumption— I kind of respect the resignation. She fucked us, got her bag, and fucked off. That’s far better than her becoming a fixture of Washington for the next 50 years.

If you ever called or wrote a letter to your congress person about an issue you cared about you were a lobbyist when you did that.

The problem is not lobbying, the problem is pay-for-play. Something like 80%-90% of candidates who spend the most money end up winning their election. Our politicians are owned by wealthy corporate interests who fund their elections. The solution is to get money — especially corporate money — out of politics.

There are a number of policy proposals that might limit the power of money in our politics, federally funded elections, regulations for how much air time each candidate gets, perhaps bring back the fairness doctrine, just to name a few.
