Are you suggesting that in democratic countries that citizens should not have the right to free assembly? Or that active criticism of government or corporate powers should be banned?

Not only would this be a dangerous precedent that belies fascist ways of thinking, it also would then take away any legal right you likely believe the Jan. 6 insurrectionists had to free assembly. Of course in that case they were actively breaking the law by entering restricted areas, brandishing weapons, committing acts of violence... Unlike these dangerous climate protestors who were blocking a public street (clutches pearls).

Its not too late to become a lighthouse operator! British Columbia is desperate for them, even the CBC (Canadian Public Broadcaster) was basically advertising for them to try to drum up willing workers. https://www.cbc.ca/...

Yes! The Cooper's Ferry village site in Nez Pearce territory contains the oldest verified evidence of habitation in North America, with dates to 16.5k years ago. There is very likely earlier habitation sites, but they will be difficult to find, and many would have been on the coastline that is now miles out to sea due to sea level rise after the glacial melt.

This buffoon couldn't have chosen a worse group to tell to go back to where they came from... They've been there since the glaciers. What a dense, ignorant and racist waste of space... too bad the constituents think enough like him that they vote this hate into office.

This DEI rhetoric, while obviously racist and sexist, I think has deeper resonance than just the immediate backlash to Harris' campaign. The escalation of racial and identity battles in the US today snacks of the rhetoric used in early 30s Germany to limit political access to both Jews and anyone else the Nazis were suspect of (basically any non-'Aryan' - whatever definition they chose to take that to mean). The law for the Restoration of the Professional Civil Service granted them the power to remove anyone from political or civil roles if deemed "unfit". Basically an anti-DEI bill. We already know Trump has sworn vengeance, and we know the Republicans are not above cruel and discriminatory laws. I worry this renewed focus on DEI is priming their voter base to accept not just authoritarianism, but a power structure that openly persecutes groups they have defined as 'the other' (I recognize this is already happening at both federal and state levels, I'm just worried it becomes official, unbridled policy).

Why even show content? It's the ads that people are actually here for! Can you imagine the audacity of people, wanting a little creative content amongst our cloud of vapid, capitalistic hawking.

I somehow think Joe Rogan fellating Donald Trump wouldn't be deemed suitable for live US television.

I used to make it the traditional way as well: searing the meat, stewing, separately stewing the pearl onions and herbs.... Then I discovered I can make it taste identical (and have much more tender beef chunks) by just making it all in the Instapot. You do it in 2 steps so your veggies don't turn to mush, but it takes around an hour, 2 tops. You can still cook the pearl onions on the side if you want (I have opted for just cutting up yellow onions, as pearls or shallots are not readily available where I live). You could probably preecook the beef in the Instapot the day before and have the Bourginon finished in half an hour if you wanted!

I assumed you were purely a satire account, that you couldn't be that daft as to miss the sarcasm dripping from many of the replies, or your complete lack of human decency. Turns out you are a bot/miscreant that joined less than a day ago to spread your vitriol and muddy the water. Maybe one day the tin man will find his heart.

"La Donna è mobile" from Verdi's Rigoletto. Have you seen a pasta sauce commercial? Then you've heard this aria.

Looks like Z-Library continues to be the winning option.

Considering Amazon is an American company, as a Canadian I currently have no qualms ignoring IP or rights holdings of an organization that supports a fascist takeover of my country.

I love how the word lieutenant is combination of the French words for "place" (lieu) and "holder" (tenant). We should just call this dude the placeholder governor from now on, just to get his panties in a bunch.

Melatonin is quite commonly used as a sleep aid for children on the autism spectrum, or with ADHD, etc. Disrupted sleep, or insomnia can be a big problem and lead to a greater difficulty for children to handle stress or stimulus and can lead to a lot more meltdowns or difficulties with things they can otherwise handle. We used it regularly with our son (as recommended by a doctor) and it made a world of difference for his sleep and then his ability to handle the next day.

If you are on Android, you really should download ReVanced. You can add adblock and sponsorblock, and you will barely ever see ads again.

I actually refused to watch YT on mobile because it was too annoying an experience, but 'vanced makes it much more like the good old days of no ads everywhere.

Tell that to my school division's IT department, who have us all running Displayport to VGA adapters, attaching to our monitors and projectors via VGA. This is because our displays are either a) too old and only support VGA and DVI in, or b) they purchased displays with HDMI, but our ThinkPad laptops only have Displayport out.

Sometimes it is more a matter of mixing and matching tech in large cash-strapped systems that might get slapped by these issues as well.

And yes, those adapters cause as many headaches as you might think.

I'm always hesitant about these reports about teacher shortages. I was a teacher in Manitoba and spent years bouncing from term to term as school divisions are under severe budget constraints and have no permanent roles to give out. They say we have a teaching shortage as well, but what they mean is no one will become a substitute teacher to make $30,000 a year. Or that no one will take the plethora of "part-time" positions where they are offering a 0.2 or 0.3 position which pays $25,000 a year (but of course expects a host of admin and extracurricular work so you don't really have the luxury of finding another job). I left teaching for a 50% pay cut in the heritage sector. The reduction in income hurts, but not being jerkd around by the system is a nice change. I'm not really in a place in life where I can relocate, but I would happily move to Quebec if the supposed guarantee to permanent teaching roles was really as good a the media makes it out to be.

Sorry for the off topic rant. Affirming a student's chosen pronouns makes a world of difference, and being able to make sure you school's data system can accurately report those chosen pronouns and whether or not parents should be informed of those pronouns can be a literal lifesaver! I've taught students who committed suicide because their parents emotionally and physically abused them for being gender fluid, and having teachers who (for their own bullshit reasons) refused to change a single word in how they referred to that student. If all it takes is changing a field in our data system, and admin reminding teachers just how important that identity can be to a teen, that is a simple change that can literally save lives. Stop using teens lives as a pawn in you pearl-clutching vote grab Conservatives!

I live in Canada now (we have our own taste of fascism here), but have lived in NZ. It is actually quite a conservative country and the same forces that are driving far-right tendencies in Europe and North American are exerting their influence in NZ as well. The benefit over North America is they have a proportional representation system, and so governments are almost always coalitions and require across the aisle agreements. Pay attention to the rhetoric in the current election cycle (they go to the polls in about a month) and you will see how the political landscape looks, that will give you an idea of it is different from Europe in the ways that you want. Relocating to NZ long-term is not that easy, as there are quite strict immigration policies. Unless you qualify under a small category of in-demand trades or are under 30 and going on a working holiday it can be difficult to get a work visa or Permanent Residency. Also note, NZ is a bloody long way from anywhere and anything. The total country's population is less than most European metropolitan areas and so it might be a massive shift in lifestyle (for better or worse) depending on where you come from.
