I can't be the only one who struggled to read that, and for general accessibility purposes since I'm already here:

Image ID:

andy1011000 Proton CEO posted:

"People honestly seem to forget that I live in Switzerland, where Republican/Democrat doesn't mean anything, and Trump isn't even on our ballot to be voted for..."

Onyx376. replied:

"The point is that fighting for a more just and equal society is not just about fighting for the fundamental right to privacy but also for all other fundamental rights, including individual rights and life. When you, as the CEO of a company that starts from these principles, nod positively to whatever action a political figure like Trump, who is known for always flagrantly putting his private interests ahead of those of his own nation, makes speeches about eliminating minorities, hurting their rights as citizens and flirting with Nazi movements, it is understandable that members of the privacy community are disappointed as this reveals a little about who is being the face of a company that should follow contrary principles. But now we really know what "freedom" means to you."

In my experience that doesn't usually happen, instead they simply see the daughter as another piece of property theirs to control (which is often framed as "protect"), and draw validation of their (toxic) masculinity from (making themselves feel like "big men" by threatening to harm any guy who comes near her for example).

He ends that last reply with "no more spending taxpayer dollars, that era is over!" which is a pretty good indication that there very much is politics to it (so I agree with you, but also he isn't even trying to hide it, so I don't see him trying to defend himself by pretending he doesn't support their politics)

The rich love convincing themselves (and the general population) that the working class and therefore society at large depends entirely on them and on their gracious "job creating" generosity to not only survive, but exist.

In reality it is the exact opposite that is true - without the workers to exploit, they are nothing, and if the workers of the world unite, we can get rid of them, and their oppressive systems, for good.

Imagine the shock and awe they would experience when that finally happens.

Now to reply to the post itself, I think this sums it up:

As we say in Germany, if there's a Nazi at the table and 10 other people sitting there talking to him, you got a table with 11 Nazis.

Though the sad truth is that almost every single product or service we use are owned and run by people with similar opinions, it is literally the nature of the capitalist beast, it's how it function, and why it will always decay in to fascism - because those with the power and the money (not just those at the very very top, but several levels bellow them, too, like this guy) will always and forever care solely about maintaining it and creating more for themselves, that's it. And to do that, they have to side with whichever dictator-du-jour benefits them the most.

Remember - there is no ethical consumption under capitalism, and this is only one of the reasons why.

Na, he's only playing the one side - his own. Always has, always will. All billionaires do, that's how they ended up that way.

I don't mean to sound callous, but shit happens, especially with pets. Dogs are notorious for eating things they shouldn't, I assure you a dog could find something to get in to that they shouldn't and that could harm or even kill them even in the tidiest house.

Now if you'd said you didn't take her to her appointment, or didn't even call the vet, I'd have some harsh things to say, but you reacted and acted appropriately to an accident.

You did the right thing in a difficult situation, try not to beat yourself up over it or hold yourself up to an impossible (read: neurotypical) standard (easier said than done, I know), and be there for her as she recovers.

Lmfao, you seriously underestimate the cognitive dissonance it takes to function at that level. If anything, he's probably even more convinced that he is the saviour of humanity than some random business owner.

Knowing airb&b, they probably already have an "extra lightbulbs" charge baked in to the cost somewhere..

E: that, or the owner will catch you on spycam and not only charge you but get you blacklisted, too..

Mental illness doesn't make people nazis, just like mental illness doesn't make people mass shooters, that's simply not how it works.

As soon as I read about this I thought it was a terrible idea, but other than the instance they chose, and the fact that they didn't bother consulting the community (which are bad in their own right) I didn't really have enough information, but since their mod team have started responding to people, it has become clear that it is not a community I want to participate in.

Beyond minimising and dismissing the legitimate concerns people have, and being very territorial over a community they had seemingly often left for someone else to mod for them, reading through the comments on one of the announcement posts, I found an example of the kind of "over modding" they disagreed with, and I recognised it as a comment that was removed from a post I had made. At the time I was very glad it, and several like it were removed, and was quite surprised a few days later to see them restored, and was really confused and disappointed. I took it as an orange, almost red flag, which along with a previous unrelated orange/red flag made me take a slight step back from the community.

Now reading Ada's side of the story, it all makes a lot more sense - my guess is she had originally removed the comments (she had come on to the post to say she was intervening), and the 196 team then swept through and restored a whole chunk of them back when they finally got around to modding themselves.

I'm almost glad this happened, because now I know who restored those comments, and whose modding to be wary of.

Bottom line - these are not the mods for me, and since an alternative has already been opened on blahaj, this is a non issue, screw 'em. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

E: They have now made a non-apology post, in which they confirm my suspicion/conclusion that it was in fact the comments removed from the post I had made (because Ada prioritised marginalised people's voices and needs, over those of the self-proclaimed "allies" who came to tell us what bad marginalised people we are for "alienating" them by also prioritising ourselves and our needs) that caused this move.

Classy.

This

We understand that a lot of respect and trust was lost, and we expect it’ll take a lot of work and a lot of time before we can earn it back, but we would be grateful if y’all gave us that chance.

and

Having another team take over splits the community. The more fragmentation there is, the less longevity and volume of community each skew will have.

Did give me a good laugh though. I'd say in case they hadn't noticed, the community has already moved on, but I suspect that it is precisely because the community has moved on that they even bothered to make that post and pretend like they've learned something from this.

That post cracked me up, with their no real apology or accountability but practically begging the community to come back to them, and talk of "fracturing" the fediverse lmfao, clearly made after and because they realised hardly anyone was following them to their new home, and not just because of what instance it's on, but because they showed their asses as mods, and people don't want to deal with their bullshit lol

This made me think of

In med school, I took an elective called "Stress", foolishly thinking I was going to learn about meditation and yoga. Instead the professor spent 6 weeks proving that being poor or a minority literally destroys your health on a molecular level, and I think about that every day.

Also, fuck trying to inflict ABA sort of bullshit on ADHD'rs as well as autists, it's ableist from the core and is all about making us "productive members" of ableist capitalist society, rather than happy well cared for individuals, and is a huge contributor to stress and feelings of inadequacy and of being burden.

Sure, coping strategies are good and important, but they should solely be to benefit the patient, not make the patient more beneficial (and acceptable) to others.

The more inclusive and accessible society is, the less stress marginalised people are exposed to for being "other".

a woman they don’t want to sleep with,

Sadly this isn't always the case, there's often a deeply incestuous vibe (and sometimes more than that) to that kind of ownership some men take of their daughters (I don't really feel like looking through the results for this search right now, but I remember several images of men wearing t shirts saying shit like "the only one who gets to touch my daughter is me" and creepy shit like that).

There are so many different layers of fucked up to a relationship between a misogynistic man and his daughter., it really is so unfortunate, but it's just one more way in which the patriarchy maintains itself.
