There are two big ones at the moment. The first is that I made my own cyberdeck, and I even have an assembly animation for it:

https://dalek.zone/w/oSAxetbgfQBrYHTgz4AXLB

It took me several months and two iterations. But I'm very happy with the end result. It could use some more tweaks, but it's been working well so far.

The second is that I've more or less completed a multi-player video game called Sunken Barrels:

https://codeberg.org/...

Just like my cyberdeck it could use some polish, but again I'm very proud with the result. It is fully playable, it's fun, and it fills the nostalgia from the original Garry's Mod game its based on.

If it's any consolation, there will always be people like me making open source games, free for the public. Though I'm only focused on PC games.

I've been preparing to run a TTRPG called Death in Space for my friends, and I have poured dozens of hours into map making for one of the bigger locations of the setting. It's called the Iron Ring, and it is a giant orbital structure built around a yellow moon called Inaro.

This screenshot of the map is approximately 150,000 square meters. I plan to have about 5 more locations this size.

I've gotten so much farther in my projects by saying "screw it, I can come back to that later" than I have in the past.

I'm now at a point where I could probably release an alpha version of my game, which is very exciting.

This would make a fantastic title screen for a game

How much delta V does it have?

Very nice, and definitely worth using grip pads on the next version

Depending on the implementation, client side anticheat isn't needed at all. Take the game Speedrunners for example. There is zero need for the server to do anything other than accept player inputs, process them, and return them to the clients.

So if coded correctly, where the server trusts nothing and does the math itself, it is impossible to cheat while having zero anticheat on the client.

And that's without there being any additional cost.

I started godot pretty recently as well. I simply cannot see a world where I'd ever go back to unity.

I'm getting much farther with much less effort.

Agreed. I've been obsessed with it. And I Made it extra challenging for myself by using a bigger screen, a whole whopping 9 inches. And then to add insult to injury I'm making removable batteries, a locking mechanism so it can be taken apart on the fly, a full mouse and keyboard, and a fan for airflow.

Eventually I might also add a GPS unit inside it too for the hell of it.

I’ve thought of building my own cyberdeck on a couple of occassions, yet haven’t bit the bullet yet. I like the assembly video, soothing in a way

It was a lot of fun to build! I definitely learned a lot and would take a different approach on a future one, which I very well might do.

I'd probably go with a pelican case for a new one, get a beefy battery bank with pass through charging, and get a bigger screen.

The interface, the IO wrapper/panel, the heavy use of heat inserts, and extensive modeling is something I would not change.

I never played the original Garry’s Mod game, so I’ll make sure to take a good look at your project :)

Fair warning, it is a multi-player only game. And you'll need to either all be on the same network or do port forwarding (port 8080).

I've loosely been debating posting about it more to get it more attention, and maybe make a discord for a centralized place for people to play it. But I've been to distracted on other projects lol.

Starship 3000

As I remember it, it was a terribly written book about a colony on the moon with a water ocean, and an asteroid hollowed out to be a seed ship to travel the stars and colonize planets.

The first half of the book was the colony on the moon part, and it went into the physics of an ocean with very low gravity, and how massive the waves get as a result. That part was cool.

And the asteroid seed ship was also very cool, it was described as being an entire ecosystem with hundreds of square miles of earth-like terrain, with small towns sprinkled all over the place.

But the writing was so hard to follow. It was all abstract, pronouns and names were hardly used enough to keep track of what was being talked about. Reviews for the book follow a similar pattern.

I've had a mind to make game about the asteroid seed ship because I feel like the concept hasn't been done justice.

Client side anti-cheat is absolutely needed in FPS/TPS. Without it, server side anti-cheat would have to do far more and quietly be much harder to do.

Those types of games are usually made by AAA studios. They have the resources to do server side anticheat despite it being more involved.

I've been working on a PvP game for the last few months.

Visibility checks aren't needed in all cases. Most RTS/2D/2.5D games don't have this problem, or it is minimal.

For games that do need them, they tend to be AAA FPS, which have the budget to make simple changes like lag compensation.
