You've got bigger problems than labour relations when "having a pleasant feminine voice" is the success criteria you use to measure the performance of a reporter.

I dunno, this logic sounds exactly like the fucked up logic that went on in the conference room that dreamed up this shitty idea only to have it face reality and be pulled on day one.

It's stupid shit like this why regulation is not the answer to big tech. But then we wouldn't need regulation if big tech didn't ruin all that was good about the Internet to begin with.

People are the problem. At large scale they turn everything to shit. Both in the private sector and in the public sector. Both meddling, making decisions on your behalf. In all cases taking your power away. It was better when we were just small communities, suffering and learning from the consequences of our own actions.

For me personally, this comment rings true, but the reality is that if you do feel this way (like I), then you were never the audience for this add. Believe it or not, still plenty of people out there with buy-a-car-as-a-present kind of money.

Think lottery winner, successfully YouTuber buying their parents a car as a thank you, plain old old money types ...

What does "stale code" even mean in this context?

Does that mean it falls behind stable? Just merge stable into your branch; problem solved.

Or is this just some coded language for "people aren't adopting my ideas fast enough". Stop bitching and get good.

Am I throwing away all my mice, keyboards, DAC, digital pens, and other peripherals just so I can have a connector with more bandwidth than I'll ever need? Nah.

Am I buying them or adapters all over again just so I can be compatible with a new universal standard that I don't need? Double nah.

KVM switches, or breakout hubs that these devices plug into, then a single USB c device goes to the computer is the most logical avenue for a migration. But this will take a long time. Most people don't even have that kind of luxury.

Yes, there's that, but it's also just straight up gaslighting as a means to bully sovereign countries and further brainwash people into whatever reality the administration dictates. Next time, it'll be an executive order to have Greenland renamed, etc. The pen truely is mightier than the sword.

Tech was better in 2015. It's all corporate squeeze now.

It's faster until you need the human operator to keep coming over because the anti-theft sensors keep getting tripped up by false positive readings. Or you need to find some vegetable code that a normal cashier has memorized.

Self checkout is great when it's done well, and total shit when poorly executed. And unfortunately, it's not always just a matter of technology (which normally keeps improving); it's often a matter of business model: sometimes customer convenience is really important, other times loss prevention (which creates frustration) is more important.

I've seen countless good self-checkout experiences backslide into crap experience because the business felt that a controlled client is more profitable than a convenienced client.

You are not wrong about the lack of corporate culture. But at the end of the day, is that worth giving up family time, company of your pets, a corner office of your choosing, with access to your own fridge and amenities, being able to receive people at the door at reasonable hours, and not having to commute asinine hours?

Many people will reject that notion.

But here's the kicker: companies don't care about your well being. They only care about the bottom line. What incentive do they have to cater to your needs? None, other than the minimum for employee retention.

This idea of "team building" is just smoke and mirrors. An excuse to not have to admit the real reason: adapting away from buts-in-seats as a performance measure is hard.

If you just want to know when the clothes are dry, there's an easier way that keeps you in full control: put a ct clamp on the power cord. Doubles as energy monitoring. You can then block that crappy wifi spying system off altogether.

So what? We trade because we mutually fill deficiencies in each other's economies. The fact that you have a personal deficiency in tools is kind of irrelevant because you do not represent either the canadian or european market. Furthermore, your comment also overlooks the fact that maybe you might have an easier time finding european-manufactured tools if europe had better access to certain ressources.

As for the ocean... there are two oceans between europe and china, yet that managed to make that work. I think the ocean thing is not an issue at all.

To be fair, robots kinda wear out over time too, arguably at a faster rate. At least living tissue can self repair.

Cataloging individual DNA data casually at a massive scale opens the door for massive genetic discrimination of all kinds, from discriminatory health insurance premiums and hiring discrimination to aparthied, eugenics, and genocide. "Don't be silly that'll never happen here." Is the height of affluent arrogance.

Humans have proven themselves to be fully capable of these horrors, it is just a matter of time until it happens again, and when we create tools of consolidated power-- just like IBM created machines that enabled Nazi concentration camps--we only increase the chance of enabling some deranged element of society oto repeat these catastrophic horrors.

All that downside just so we can consume 15 minutes of dopamine.

That's a weird way of saying that all manufacturers will from now adhere to the NACS or SAE J3400 charge standard, further breaking down the barriers to locked in--or monopolized--charge networks. It's also a very weird way of saying that a common charge standard will further diversify stakeholdership in an already pretty diversified charge network stakeholdership ecosystem.

Ditch Amazon and big tech. Consume less in general. Do more with what's on hand. Repair instead of replace.

Not everyone has the skills to do the above, so volunteering time to help others do this can help too.
