Fun fact: the trade in Obsidian dates back at least 14,000 years. Some suggest there may have been obsidian trade networks dating back 700,000 years, but those may have been one off trades. Or human ancestors travelled to mine obsidian deposits in a concentrated manner. Source That would mean trade predates the human race.

Also, only last years researchers proved that significant amounts of the tin needed to make Bronze during the Bronze Agein what is now Greece, came from tin mines in Cornwall. Not enough tin locally. Source. This is why they'll find really old beads, amber and the like where you'd least expect it. Trade network spanning from Cornwall to Afghanistan, dating back up to 5000 years if not more.

No coincidence that some of the first joint-stock companies were the Dutch East India Company and the British East India Company. Capitalism helped fund colonialism.

Fascists Americans and Europeans only care about white people. They claim to be defending 'Christians' and 'Christian values'. (I use apostrophes advisedly). They don't give a shit about Gaza.

Here's the thing though, AFAIK last year the religious group responsible for killing the most Christians, was Russian Orthodox Christianity. This includes the terror bombings of civilians, including schools and hospitals. Patriarch Kirill of Moscow, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, even declared the Russian invasion of Ukraine a 'Holy War' and went so far as to promise Russian soldiers entry to heaven if they died fighting as 'warriors of the Lord' in said Holy War.

Meanwhile Christian fundamentalists across the world give cover to Israeli fundamentalists and racial supremacists carpet bombing Gaza.

But hey, Islam is an inherently violent religion, don't ya know. (Just don't open a history book or watch the news).

Meh. If you're unable to properly moderate the comment section, you end up giving the bigots a platform, and vulnerable people are unsafe. That's how hate speech proliferates on the internet.

There's a good reason to lock certain topics, removing them less so, although it does stop bigots whining about not being able to share their stunning insights on those certain topics.

It's the whole reason places like beehaw or gay clubs exist.

If I look on Science@mander.xyz it's still there, but that might be me. This being said.

BPR. The whole gender debate has become toxic.

Most plausible scenario is that it's not a reflection on what you posted but that the mod didn't want to deal with the comment section, and removed it for that reason.

Or they didn't read the article and assumed it was 'it's just science' transphobia, because there are so many of them even on here. Probably should have taken a breath and read the article, which is still up on !science@lemmy.ml and is genuinely interesting.

Or they didn't want to set a precedent of allowing one article on gender/sex, only for a hundred transphobes to start whining that their 'scientific' articles weren't allowed.

I mean, maybe they should have locked it, but there's a plausible reason they didn't want to deal with that shit and shut it down fast.

Wait... NYC doesn't have those huge underground bins yet?

IME those are pretty common in even smaller cities in Europe. Even the UK has them in plenty of cities. Frees up a lot of space and you don't need to empty them as much.

America really is weird sometimes. Imagine being rich as sin, buying a multi-million dollar property in NYC, then being ok with the neighbourhood around that property smelling like someone died after fucking a dumpster filled with fish, because you're ideologically opposed to even a small tax hike.

For reference, this is what above slogan looks like in Fraktur (the 'Nazi font'):

Here's the above slogan in the same font the Nazis used (Fraktur):

Yeah. I know.

Tannenberg (as in the battle of) is the really nazi version of Fraktur that people should absolutely avoid:

Fascists ruin everything.

I find the Vikings fascinating. Can't wear anything with Viking Runes on it though, ruined by association.

You just watched a Marvel movie and want to get a Mjolnir's hammer t-shirt or hammer? Also popular with fascists.

Do you like metal? Chances are that band shirt you're wearing will get misidentified as a fascist t-shirt or that the band has become popular with fascists.

You like a memento mori skull? Once again nazis. Got plenty of weird looks wearing a Vans t-shirt with skulls on it in Germany.

You like the Punisher cartoons? Think the logo is cool and like how the comics are critical of the police. I've got bad news for you.

Lonsdale used to a respected British sportswear manufacturer. But fascists found out you can put a jacket over it, and only NSDA is visible. Brand is often relegated to European discount shops now.

You have Irish family and like Celtic stuff? Often ruined by association, especially something like a Celtic cross.

Shit feet? Find combat boots work for you? Like a nice harrington or bomber jacket? Want to cut your hair short? Dr. Martens or anything skin culture related, was ruined by nazis for a long time, although luckily that's largely a thing of the past. The wrong colour shoe laces will still raise an eyebrow though.

You like the Wachowskis and the Matrix? Guess who co-opted the red pill metaphor?

You like John Carpenter's They Live because it's a satire of Reagan era capitalism and commercialisation? Guess what, popular with anti-Semites.

Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, gaming, hell not so long the fascists even tried to convince Trekkies that their favourite show, which featured an interracial kiss in the 60s and arguably a gay/trans plot in the 90s, had become too woke.

Fucking tiresome. Cunts the lot of them.

e: Sorry for the rant.

I hate it because I think Gothic scripts look neat, but they’re still heavily associated with the Nazis.

I think blackletter is a family of gothic fonts, with fraktur being one type of blackletter.

Fraktur(aka Nazi font):

Picture above:

This being said, I'd argue the properly Nazi one is Tannenberg(which commemorates the German victory over Russia):

IRC Tannenberg is also a form of Fraktur (which is a form of blackletter) and obviously they're all Gothic scripts.

IRC the nazis abandoned them at one point, because they're not always legible.

e: I've just had an interesting trip down wikipedia lane, so take all this with a pinch of salt.

TBF smoking a cigar while doing a horrific shit, would probably do much to neutralise the worst of the smell. Bit like how incense is used to cover bad smells too. Nicotine can also stimulate bowel movement. So kinda makes sense to smoke while taking a shit.

Wonder who the musician was. I think this is The Garden studio, so that narrows it down. It'd be funny if it was Robert Smith of the Cure, they previously recorded there. Doesn't fit, but could you imagine? LOL

Simon Cowell isn't famous for being a musician, so doesn't fit the bill.

I suppose Andy McCluskey from OMD might fit. He founded Atomic Kitten and co-wrote Whole Again. But I assume they recorded somewhere in the north not London. Also, IRC he was still recording OMD stuff when the Spice Girls were recording Wannabe.
