I never went down this rabbit hole, but allegedly, "flint drills" existed since neolithic times and are simply a rotating stick (like a fire drill) with flint dust added for extra grit, as they are, allegedly, almost as hard as diamonds (and maybe extremely brittle? idk, but they sure seem like shitty diamonds)
Can you get a stick into a drill and actually make a hole, like this? Maybe, but post the pictures.
