As much as I would love to have a Linux phone, it will not fully help with privacy. The devices are logged into a cell tower and have a unique ID. This alone makes them trackable.

Let's call it "soonish". The old proton versions still need 32 bit libs if they do not backport the feature.

glibc is a library, gcc is the compiler.

Unfortunately Mozilla is going the enshittification route more and more. Or good in this case that the Firefox Phone did not take of.

It is not worthless. My understanding is that management only trusts sources that are expensive.

Go with one of the ready to use systems. Flatpak, Snap, AppImage. Snap is largely Ubuntu Ecosystem, Flatpak is independent. AppImage is an option if you do not need/want a Sandbox.

Stay away from Docker and LXC for this use case (graphical applications), they are much more work to get going.

Transfer the app through scp [...]

I use an ad-hoc while loop in a shell with inotifywait to wait for changes in the watched directory and then scp it.

Great article. Reminds me of the time when I started using Linux as my main work system, back with kernel 0.99z

But then they would show the general public that Linux is a thing worth mentioning. I doubt that many people outside IT know about CBL Mariner.

Did you reboot sometime while testing? Chances are that e.g. a new kernel or Nvidia driver version broke the current system and needs a reboot to fix it.

This would be a flight mode switch that reliably works. But it also means you are offline, which is no solution to the average "daily" problem of being tracked.

I always run occ upgrade and occ db:add-missing-indices after a package upgrade, just to be sure that I do not miss any database migrations. Using Archlinux I wrote a pacman hook so that it happens automatically.

Consider buying one that is supported by Valetudo. It's so much better to be cloud free.

The hot water pipe to the kitchen is quite long. We have a pipe loop there with a pump. Back in the days we had an ordinary timer that let the pump run at the usual times when there is hot water demand to be expected.

I now use a Zigbee plug for the pump and added a button in the kitchen to start it manually. In addidion HA starts it in the morning and every time when somebody comes home. Another HA automation turns off the pump after 3 minutes and ensures that it does not start again for 30 minutes.

I would start with Ardour and see if it fulfills your needs.

Which version did you try? I used the 24.12.something version earlier this year for some rather complicated project and it was very stable.

I know they had stability issues before but not with that version. Disclaimer: I did not do video editing since, so I cannot say if the stability issues are back.
