UAW has publicly stated they are withholding endorsement of Biden until he supports the UAW’s efforts to unionize electric vehicle facilities. That has yet to happen. Biden has actual influence over the big three that rank and file don't, standing on the picket line is very performative unless it's followed up by action.

For all you libs who take this criticism personally, understand that this is a good start. But that's all it is. Applauding this without critical analysis is how Democrats diffuse political energy without delivering material gains. The working class cannot sit back, the pressure must force their hands to do more.

In the critical swing state of Michigan, where tens of thousands of UAW members work, the union holds an outsized influence over state politics and, in turn, nationwide races. That means union support will be crucial for Biden’s reelection chances in 2024. Capitalizing on the Biden administration’s tepid support for the UAW strike, Donald Trump announced he would speak to autoworkers this month, drawing condemnation from Fain.

So fucking good. Need this militant take in the labor movement to spread like wildfire.

You understand what an endorsement is right?

Political power is not maintained by just giving it away in return for nothing, i.e. the union loses power by just endorsing Biden without Biden showing his support of the union.

Any organization should withhold endorsements if neither candidate represents their best interests. That is a strong indication that the political parties need to run better candidates. That kind of political pressure isn't as prevalent as it needs to be and I am happy to see UAW applying it.

I have been peaking over at reddit periodically, morbid curiosity really. Schadenfreude.

The number of apathetic users who thinks that protesting has accomplished nothing is unsurprising, logically, but is viscerally a gut punch. The fate of social media and the internet at large is important as its a stepping stone (often times overvalued but important none the less) to addressing bigger societal issues. The fact that so many people don't care about an issue as it doesn't effect them directly and they have no curiosity or empathy on how/why it's impacting other, bluntly fucking sucks. It makes the bigger issues seem even more unsolvable.

It's not a culture war issue and God damn I am so tired of NYTimes obfuscation of the truth of the matter.

Climate like so many other issues we currently face is a class war issue. The working class is going to face the fallout of environmental change, while the rich avoid feeling it effects. Mass migration north as the global south becomes unsustainable, food shortages increasing grocery prices, working conditions continuing to become unsafe as AC installation in warehouses and trucks is "cost prohibitive". None of that will impact the wealthy, it's exactly WHY they are currently hoarding.
