100% this. I've gotten to where when people try and rope me into their new million dollar app idea I tell them that there are fantastic resources online to teach yourself to do everything they need. I offer to help them find those resources and even help when they get stuck. I've probably done this dozens of times by now. No bites yet. All those millions wasted...

Cards on the table: for Google money I'd do it too. If they want to enshittify their product until the competition has a fighting chance, who am I to stop them? Sure, it's an annoying and anticonsumer thing to do. But making a "free" product's bad qualities harder to circumvent isn't the ethical hill I'm going to die on.

For boys, the incel and alpha male shit is what I see really affecting their life trajectories. Once they get into those mindsets they start to repel good influences and quickly end up in echo chambers. The only people who will put up with them are equally toxic and they feed off each other and quickly spiral. A good boy can turn into a woman hating rebel that doesn't listen to any adults shockingly quickly.

Unfortunately, I do not know specifically where this content lives for you to block. I'd definitely start with YouTube and tiktok. Also, talk to your kids about this stuff! It's great that you're trying to responsibly manage their Internet access. A lot of parents don't, and everything you're protecting them from on their electronics they can easily pick up from others at school. Even if you homeschool to prevent this eventually they'll grow up and leave the nest. The only holistic way to give them the best shot (no method is guaranteed, they still have free will) is to teach them the critical thinking skills and morals they need to identify and reject this stuff on their own.

This interpretation leaves out the most important part of the crucifixion story: Jesus willingly took on the world's sins out of love. So whether or not most Christians would say yes depends on if the one person being tortured has a choice in the matter, which is unspecified in the question.

I made the switch almost a year ago when they started announcing all the spyware coming to win11. The distro you choose matters a LOT. After several that were buggy and frustrating I landed on Garuda dragonized. Setup was easy with their assistant finding the drivers I needed and I have yet to have any system breaking updates. Better track record than windows TBH. Performance is great, and steam integrates so well with proton that my experience is honestly just as good as windows native. I should probably go make a donation to the Garuda project, now that I'm thinking about it.

Not a direct answer to the question, but relevant; they make a film you can put on your windows that holds them together when shattered. This could theoretically cause a grenade to bounce instead of penetrating. Not an expert, do your research before assuming it will work.

Tear some holes in it, sprinkle in nuts, and leave in your backyard. Congratulations: you now have a rodent hotel!

This term definitely isn't deprecated or insulting? Most colleges in my state have an NAACP branch. They have career fairs and all sorts of events under the name. This may be regional though. I suppose anything can be considered an insult if you say it in a certain way.

Getting this specific ad one too many times is actually what finally motivated my lazy ass to switch from sync to eternity

I use one because it lowers my screen time. I can walk away from my phone and still be aware of texts and calls from family.

I always say money doesn't buy happiness, but it is a prerequisite. Starving homeless people don't have a lot of opportunity to seek whatever makes them happy.

When content is low quality, posted to the wrong community (usually intentionally), trolls. Basically anything that I feel shouldn't exist. The content that I believe takes value from people's lives instead of adding it. If I find content that I dislike but believe adds value to other people, well that's what the block/ban features are for.

Tidal has no official Linux app, which is shocking considering their demographic. But a hero has made an app that gets pretty close. Under the hood it's the web client with some add-ons to support full quality streaming. The user experience is generally fairly close to an official app.

I used soundiiz to convert all my content over, and of probably over 10,000 songs there were less than 100 unavailable, so library isn't a concern. The increased quality is nice, but the big reason I choose tidal is that instead of doing unnecessary stuff like podcasts they pay artists better. As much as 3X according to some things I've read. I have not verified those numbers.

I was fortunate enough to get invited to a ballroom dancing class in high school and fell in love with it. It's exercise and a social experience all in one fairly affordable package. Where I live an hour long group class is $10 a head. I wouldn't do private lessons for these purposes. And if you like it, there are so many subcultures! There are entire groups dedicated to certain dances like West Coast swing and Argentine tango. Regular social dances on the weekends in addition to classes. YMMV based on where you live, but dancing with the stars has brought ballroom into the mainstream and there are quality studios in most decent sized US cities as far as I know.

Mullvad VPN. $5 a month for 5 concurrent high speed connections. No fake sales, no BS.

Music streaming services are close. As I understand it the artists don't get a great deal, but as a consumer ~$12/m is on the high end of reasonable for unlimited access to high quality music. And unlike with television streaming services there's very little exclusivity bullshit. You can listen to most anything most anywhere.

My kit:

  • pocket knife
  • flashlight
  • wallet
  • folding phone stand
  • phone
  • earbuds
  • pen (with a cap, not a clicky)
  • sharpie
  • breath mints
  • 4' multi-end charging cable
  • thumb drive
  • lightning > 3.5mm (aux)
  • USBC > 3.5mm
  • bandaids
  • OTC drugs (Advil, Tylenol, Aleve, Benadryl, lactase (I'm lactose intolerant))

Everything on that list was added because I needed it and didn't have it on multiple occasions. There have been plenty of other things that I would love to carry, but found too bulky to justify.

A note to everyone recommending condoms: they do expire, and can wear through if carried in an environment with friction (wallet, pocket, etc). I prefer to play it safe and make a stop at a drug store should the need arise.
