Or people that just don't want to bother with building another machine to put downstairs in the livingroom or whatever. There are a lot of middle aged people who have been PC gaming for decades, are perfectly happy to build their primary gaming machine, and have hundreds of games in their library, and the means to consider the couple hundred dollar price difference between $1000 and whatever they could spend to build a machine to be worth the convenience of not having to do it.

You could probably build a comparable machine for $800 or so today, but from that perspective you are paying a couple hundred bucks for the form factor and the convenience of not having to source all the parts.

I think it depends on how much time and effort you are willing to put into sourcing and building everything and how important the form factor is. Lots of guys build pretty capable livingroom computers out of old Small Form Factor business computers, but once you have it all together its not a LOT cheaper than this.

It really comes down to how you value your time. You could beat this price, but if you value your time in doing so (i.e. if its not something you think is fun on its own) its probably not worth the effort.

Something like the Small Form Factor Optiplex computers fits nicely into any old home entertainment or stereo setup, but I suppose we already have about a thousand machines that will fit that slot and people that wanted to do that probably already did.

Not endorsing the interpretation at all, but the idea with the people in Gitmo is that they were "combatants" from a "war" and were therefore prisoners of war and subject to a different set of laws. The whole point of putting them in Gitmo was to avoid the legal complications of the domestic American justice system.

Conversely, immigrants are, by definition, inside of the United States and therefore protected by American laws. At least that has been the case historically. The court is going to determine if that is in fact the case.

And yeah, we all need to be worried about an interpretation that being in America somehow does not place a person under the justification of the American justice system and all the rights and responsibilities that entails.

Historically "not under the jurisdiction of the United States" meant exactly what you think it meant. It meant that they were not subject to the laws of the US and was a status commonly called "diplomatic immunity".

I agree with your conclusion that people cannot be both immune from rights and subject to law, but sadly the courts have disagreed.

Its even more astonishing when you compare it to modern military numbers that are closer to a 1 in 10 ratio even for large scale conflicts. Russia numbers for this conflict look like Napoleonic war casualties.

The US has a pretty broad range of what counts as a "gas station" Some of them have on-site prepared food that is legitimately pretty good.

Sure, and once we have remedied the ten thousand OTHER problems caused by executive overreach and corruption in this admin we can get around to addressing the hard done to this poor little AI company.

For any other administration I would agree with this. For these guys? They are absolutely stupid enough to really be using Grok for decisions like this.

Wait.

You are suggesting that if I provide a free service to people with credibility, whether they use it or not, that I can then claim that credibility for myself?

"why didn't you do them?"

"That is a good question and it merits further explanation. When you made your originally inquiry I determined that the answer you wanted to hear was "yes." so that is the answer that I provided. Upon further reflection it is clear that your question required a more thoughtful answer. If you would like me to provide more truthful answers in the future, please amend your queries with "no cap" and I will do my best to remember that preference."

Russian capsules have returned to land since their very first launches.

The decision has more to do with geopolitics than physics. Russia does not have a robust Navy with access to equatorial waters on which to land a spacecraft, the US does. Given the historical accuracy of landing a capsule it is actually a hell of a lot easier to drive a big ship to the eventual location than it is to drive a big truck into the middle of a desert. The reason western nations return capsules to the sea is because its easier to recover them there.

Both approaches have technical challenges. Returning to land requires a slower landing speed (although as a percentage of the starting velocity of a spacecraft its a pretty insignificant difference) and landing on the sea requires the carrying of flotation devices and designing a capsule with buoyancy in mind.

In other words this post is completely inaccurate.
