I've heard this is why death sentences state "hanged by the neck until dead." Someone survived a hanging at one point and successfully argued that their sentence had been carried out, so they could not be hanged again. I read about it years ago, I don't remember details. All this is to say she might not be able to make that point. Either way, you're right. It's gonna be interesting.

It's much easier than thinking.

Don't get involved with people who enthusiastically shit on others' ideas, while having none of their own. Can't count how many times I've countered a complaint with "Ok, what would you do?" only to be met with those empty eyes that tell you there's nothing happening behind them.

Some people just think conversation is defined as bitching.

I've worked with a couple people like this. They'll come in bragging about their (actually) impressive résumé. There will be a honeymoon phase where everyone is convinced Mr. Fancy Résumé will change the world. A year or two will go by and everyone will realize they are the embodiment of capitalism. All confidence, importance and big talk on the outside, actually dumb and ineffective on the inside. Gilded, you could say. They get wind that their time may be up, quit, put their new badge on their résumé and starting fucking the next one. All that is to say there are a lot of people out there who are great at building a résumé, but not actually great at doing any work.

Many Puerto Ricans are white. I've known many people over the years who are blonde hair, blue eyes, or green eyed gingers with freckles, but are as Puerto Rican as they come. Ask your local MAGA turd if they can explain why that might be.

For almost any other crime I would agree with you, but in this case I think we need the spectacle. No one should give a flying fuck about a pedophile's reintegration after a punishment. Especially not for the folks who organized, facilitated and profited from said pedophilia.

Those of us who understand and respect the American Constitution down it's tenets and principles, are so dejected that we need to see some perp walks to believe justice exists at all here.

Its all just words on paper. It's the actions and accountability of our government that make justice real. Sure it was never perfect; definitely needed lots of improvement. But without accountability, it's gone. The fabric is unwoven. I don't believe our government is hostile enough towards the pedophiles that run it right now, so these shitbirds need to make me believe again.

Some poor corporate asshole had to literally write "Oral-B Brushing Experience" and pretend to care about what they do. Capitalism, baby! The goofy ass terminology people use to sell shit is sickening. "Using our new pasture woven insulation technology, we've guaranteed your feet will never be cold again" instead of "our socks are made of wool." I cringe.

My wife's father was killed on 9/11. We usually go to the memorial on the anniversary. Its incredibly, incredibly somber. The reading of the names, the bells ring and time stops. Everything goes silent, and people are crying everywhere you look. I didn't know her dad, but it's the most difficult thing in the world for me every year. I truly can't imagine what she and other family members feel. I have empathy, but this is different. I can't describe the way you feel pain hanging in the air, but it's almost as though it's being hugged away by the other families who lost theirs. You feel it, but it's insulated in a way.

I try not to hate people, as a rule. I don't want to hate anyone, but I do sometimes and I spend lots of time thinking about why that might be and how I can stop. It's usually pretty simple. Our government makes it so, so fucking difficult to manage that.

What a stupid comparison. Guns have one purpose - destruction. You can talk about all the things you can do with guns, but their intended purpose and design is to destroy. The better they destroy shit, the more valuable they are. They're nothing without that. Pools and hot tubs are not that, and provide value to families and communities in other ways. Also, it's water. Literally water. And many areas have building codes surrounding pools and their safety. Mainly fences and safety covers. Homeowners insurance is also more expensive when you own a pool. Does that stop every child from drowning? No. Do we know how many times a child was saved because a pool was legally required to have a fence or safety cover? Also no. Also, there is no one running around with pools or hot tubs in their pockets drowning children en masse.

None of that was to say it doesn't matter, it's to say it's a stupid comparison. We can work on drownings and work on gun deaths at the same time. They're two completely different problems. If I said too many people died in car accidents, you wouldn't say "well what about cigarettes!? Don't care about lung cancer then huh?" Yes. They both problems. Such different problems it's stupid to compare them. Pool safety also isn't a divisive political issue that's winds up in the news because people would mostly agree on common sense pool safety. There's no group of fenceless pool enthusiasts protesting for their right to own a pool that a child could easily drown in. We would consider those people idiots.

Before I go on, your comment is valid and I fully agree with you. I am not saying this is the case with you, but presenting the other side of the coin. Just because you're the highest performer at a position does not mean you're necessarily the best fit for a promotion. I work with plenty of people who were promoted for being the hardest workers. They are now managers who flounder because they cannot work hard to impress. They need to lead a team of hard workers, which requires a different set of traits than being a hard worker yourself. My manager when I started was promoted for being the hardest worker. That was all she knew how to do. She could not lead people. Couldn't give constructive criticism, could not take constructive criticism. Any idea that was not her idea was not a good idea. Wanted to rule with an iron fist and feel important, but could not do anything that would actually get her there. Extremely hard worker though, and the work she did do was on point. Just could not lead a team. It's shitty, but it's the truth.

The goal is for cost of living to go up along with wages or dollar value. Remember a nickel in the 40's was not a little bit of money. Now we hardly even think about it. And I hope your employer is at least giving cost of living raise. Don't stay at a company that goes years on end without giving any increase.
