As the article says, this aligns their fees with the fees charged byany other countries. While there is anti-foreign sentiment in Japan right now due to over-tourism, this doesn't appear to be targeted at reducing tourism.

Maybe read the article to see how science is done. They've accounted for this.

It is amazing to me how short our memories are as a species. There are people who are still in congress who had polio. There are an estimated 300,000 people still alive in the US who survived polio. Even with that, the nominated head of Health and Human Services wants to do away with the polio vaccine.

I don't know what the problem is. Is it a lack of empathy? Is it willingness to swallow the bait surrounding conspiracy theories? Is it just a lack of education? How did we get to the point where it is even remotely okay for the future head of Heath and Human Services to be against the polio vaccine?

If being pro-polio isn't disqualifying for being the head of HHS, and if he gets confirmed, the U.S. will have very clearly shown that it is in rapid decline. It will have shown that the government is corrupt to its core and is irredeemable.

I've come to the conclusion that conservatives are just people whose sense of empathy is broken. Over and over I hear about conservatives who held bigoted beliefs and only changed their minds when confronted by someone they love becoming the target of other people's identical bigoted beliefs. These people just can't empathize enough to think "what if it was my child/spouse/friend?"

Man, fuck these people. They obviously don't want justice and don't believe in liberty, certainly not for all. They are so anti American that they break the Pledge of Allegiance on a daily basis.

I don't understand why companies who commit blatant fraud like this aren't required to disgorge all fraudulently earned money. If someone defrauds banks they get fined based on their earnings in a way that hurts. If someone defrauds consumers for "tens of millions of dollars" they are only fined $16M.

Well, actually I do understand, I just don't like it and don't like what it says about this country's priorities.

Trump doesn't give a shit about anyone but him. They just cut $55M intended to fund training for rural teachers (because who wants educated educators?) and now he wants to spend more than that on a mile long military parade celebrating his birthday. And it's not even a milestone birthday, just a birthday.

From the article, Trump wanted to do something similar but, presumably smaller, in his first term but backed off after the price tag came to $92M. He instead opted for an event that ONLY cost $13M. How much do you think this one will cost? What will get cut to fund it?

Fucking narcissistic traitor... He'll probably figure out how to grift a few tens of millions from this by selling tickets, too.

a violation of the Presidential Records Act

Fucking DO SOMETHING THEN!

Until Trump faces some consequences for doing illegal shit it doesn't matter what the law says. Trump is above the law and that needs to change.

I don’t understand how 40 years of prison for a non-violent crime isn’t considered to be both “cruel” and “unusual”. It is objectively cruel. I certainly hope that it is also unusual. I certainly hope that there aren’t many more like him, imprisoned for decades for what amounts to personal-use levels of pot. 5.5 lbs of pot when you include the stem and roots isn’t that much and certainly sounds like a personal supply to me.

I have a few questions:

  • Why?
  • How long will they be here?
  • How big was the bribe?

It was actually pretty interesting to listen to the sentencing. It's about 20 minutes. The judge goes through all of the options at his disposal and discusses his the rationale that he used to arrive at a prison sentence.

He had the option of sentencing her to parole, community service, or incarceration. He then described her as unrepentant, the most defiant defendant the court has ever seen, and a continuing danger to society. He also discussed that he considers how a sentence will act as deterrent for the defendant directly (not at all in this case) and for others who might seek to commit similar crimes as well as punishment. He determined that Mrs Peters would immediately go commit the same crimes again given the opportunity, that community deterrence is important, and that punishment was warranted.

He also went through her mitigating circumstances. He compared her circumstances to the typical defendant that his court sees and characterized her as extremely privileged with few mitigating circumstances and many aggravating ones. He said that she simply sought power, prestige, and wealth without a care for who she harmed. He characterized her as an unrepentant liar and a fraud who lied every chance she got including about why she kicked a police officer while on video.

Based on his rationale, he decided that removing Tina Peter's from the community was in the best interests of the community.

TL/DR The judge didn't like Mrs Peters very much.

I agree with you that this should be illegal. I expect this was in the terms of service, though. Since we have no laws restricting this kind of bullshit, the company can argue that they're within their rights.

We need some real legislation around privacy. It's never going to happen, but it needs to. We need a right to anonymity but that is too scary for advertisers and our police state.

How the fuck is Kid fucking Rock still relevant in any way? I thought he would have just disappeared into obscurity after the 90s ended. Do some people actually still give this guy their money for some reason?

Edit: How the hell does the "ba with the ba with the bang da bang diggy diggy - diggy said the boogie said up drop the boogie" guy have eleven studio albums? And who the hell are the 5.3M monthly listeners on Spotify? This blows my mind!

"Strategic stamina" is something that the US used to have but which has disappeared as the country just tries to catch its breath.

If he won't debate, they should put together a "debate" where they take in-context Trump quotes, show them on a screen, then let Kamala respond to them. Let her rip apart his awful rhetoric and lack of policies and if he doesn't show up to defend himself, that's his problem.

Some of the publicly available data is disappearing under the new administration. Most notably information about COVID, long COVID, vaccines, and bird flu is disappearing. Presumably, this data dump contains the missing data.

While I think the shirt is funny and should be worn proudly, I can see how someone might be offended for non-racist reasons. Some people might simply find the depiction of death to be offensive.

That said, it's entirely possible the offended person was a raging racist.

Edit:

This edit is for those of you who are saying that people shouldn't be offended by violence since it's on TV. I think you're missing the fact that the point entirely.

The fact that a depiction of violence is making a valid point doesn't make it less offensive. In fact, that would detract from the message. Sometimes it is important to make a statement using depictions of violence to get a point across because the violence is offensive.

That said, I think it is perfectly reasonable for someone to find this shirt objectionable for non-racist reasons. For example, many people prefer not to expose their kids to depictions of violence. I think it's this person's right to wear the shirt to make their point but the consequence of wearing it is that some people may say that they find it offensive for both non-racist and racist reasons.
