Hmm. I'm a multibillionaire with an empathy deficit and borderline psychotic tendencies, and I'm in a perpetual pissing contest with my fellow billionaires. I wonder if I should let the masses take away some of my money through tax to spend on education and healthcare, or spend a fraction of that amount sowing division and mistrust and duping the plebs into blaming other plebs for their problems, which are, in fact, mainly due to me hoarding excessive wealth. Tricky.

We tip if we go out for a family meal and the service is good, which it almost always is. If it's not, then no tip. The wage is, by law, nearly $17 an hour, so they get paid regardless, and if they do a good job, they get more. I was a waiter in Edinburgh, and it was clear to me that the more attentive I was, the better chances I had of a tip. It was the incentive. I was a student at the time and had other student colleagues who brought their moods to the table and were annoyed when they got little to no tip.

However, if I was in the US where they basically need the tips to earn a living wage then I'd always tip.

Hard, hard disagree. Not a fan of his recent stand-up, but The Office was an absolute breath of fresh air at the time and was so hilarious and relatable to my own work experience.

I remember my boss complaining that it wasn't funny and he didn't know what the fuss was about, which made absolute sense to me as it was basically taking the piss out of people like him and highlighting how absurd petty and insecure managers can be.

The characters are timeless, and I think the Christmas special was among the best pieces of British TV ever.

People should perhaps be cautious of what they downvote. I recently posted my take on something, but said I was open to counterarguments. The responses were good and made me reconsider (though not entirely alter) my opinion. My initial take was downvoted—which feels like it is being used as a 'disagree' button, which is arguably not the point.

The old Apple ads in the UK that had Mitchell and Webb, where Webb was the 'I'm a PC' nerd. If I wanted a computer, I'd sooner have one like Mark Corrigan than Jez.

The value of a single goal in football is immense. You just need to recalibrate and appreciate the skill and teamwork. Each goal is the cumulative result of an intense battle involving skill, teamwork, and athleticism. Conversely, some of the most boring football games are when the teams aren't evenly matched and one team dominates, scoring several goals.

Out of curiosity I checked out how Fox News is covering this shit show. Totally fucking unhinged is an understatement. He could livestream eating a baby and they'd be praising his bold nutritional choices.

It's wild. Meanwhile, other mainstream media channels are accused of leftist propaganda by these deranged lunatics, simply for reporting the facts.

This is what I don't get when folk online treat girls under 18 of any age as the same thing. A full grown person who's a 30 something adult being with a 17 year old is exploitative, controlling and weird.

Being with an 8 year old is monstrous and, frankly, worthy of the death penalty.

I'm not excusing the first, but do people really see no difference? If you need a legal line in the sand to determine if it's either totally fine or straight to the guillotine then maybe there's something wrong with you.

Feels like if he could just STFU he'd be golden. I remember when he was widely seen in a positive light. He was practically messianic on Reddit back in the day. Then his innate pettiness came out when he called that diver a peado. It feels like his mask slipped then and everything after just reinforced the fact that he's an unchecked and uncaring megalomaniac.

I love these wholesome debates. Let's all hate on each other as we fight over scraps from the Master's table.

Probably not, because I'm generally not attracted to biological males as they usually don't have the physical attributes I find attractive. Sure, feminine attributes can be achieved through surgery, drugs and makeup, but I'd prefer a natural woman and since there is that choice, that's what I'd prefer.

Before you get upset, know that this is my honest opinion. I'll respect you however you identify and will happily hang out with anyone. And I'm sure i'd find some non-binary folk physically attractive, but as I have a choice and I'm a cis hetro then that's my answer.

The only problem I've had with the EVs we've been leasing for 5 years now, is unsolicited criticism from EV haters. They seem to ignore the fact that I've been driving various diesel and petrol vehicles for decades. If my own lived experience of EVs was less rewarding than my previous ICE ownership I'd switch back. It's not like a football team that I'm wedded to. They're just generally better cars in terms of driving, torque, maintenance, cost to run and basically every metric that matters to me as a driver. Quite why that annoys people who in many cases have never even been behind the wheel of one is beyond me.

I agree. My real abhorrence, however, is for the countless bootlickers who themselves live in near poverty yet loudly support their overlords in a sycophantic and unquestioning fashion. These class traitors, masquerading as real Americans are as culpable as the mentally deranged hoarders they prop up.

I don't feel like there's a way to get through to these sheep-like collaborators, so it's difficult to imagine anything will change in the near future.

I have no idea. I'm a vanilla, semi-norm who came from Reddit, mainly because they banned me after 15 years of active and mostly chill engagement.

I'm basically just a slightly opinionated guy who's interested in what other people have to say on a variety of subjects.

I'm only dimly aware of PieFeed. I like lemmy as it feels like early Reddit and I access it through the boost app on Android, which was the peak Reddit experience before they locked down the APIs.

I've no interest in spreading myself over multiple platforms - I just want access to other humans via the path of least resistance.

With this in mind, is PieFace better? And if so, in what way?

As someone who lives in rural Scotland and is old enough to have got married before the prevalence of these apps, I genuinely never expected to find the way most people hook up these days to be so utterly alien to my own lived experience.

I honestly don't know how I'd cope with having to curate myself for some dystopian line-up so that, if I'm lucky, I can end up on these depressingly transactional dates, only to get these polite but impersonal rebuffs.

In my day people just got drunk enough to speak to the opposite sex, and if you clicked and miraculously still liked each other the next day then you'd start 'going out' with each other.

I can see how that might sound awful to many of this generation, but it was pretty much normal for us. And as a pretty plain guy with a reasonable sense of humour it worked out pretty well for me.
