I'm so glad to see this posted. The whole meme of bear vs man made me feel at odds and while I saw what the point was that it tried to raise it still didn't really do a great job to me. After a lot of thinking about it and discussing it in other threads I finally understood what I feel is the issue. While the answer given by most (if not all) women is shocking and shows the feeling of uncertainty and unsafeness the question is framed in such a way that it creates division and sexism. The problem is not what women are answering, the issue is that it puts men on the other side without any more thought. It divides us into women vs either men or bears. I'm not a woman, I'm not a bear, and I don't want to be a man seen as a danger. I understand the issue and I want to be part of the solution and create a safer world for everyone.

This whole topic wouldn't have made me see the problem if it wasn't for the effect that other ways to raise awareness have had in the past. For me the greatest method to raise awareness was the #metoo movement. That's when I could see the issue and what kind of effect it has. It was a movement that didn't automatically make me feel excluded, it was a movement that raised awareness of the victims, but it didn't have to be only women, also men that had been victims could raise it if they felt empowered by it. It was horrifying seeing the spread of it, and then there must be all the ones that didn't say anything. That's a movement I can get behind, that's the way to raise awareness. Since then I try to be more aware of the kind of behavior that creates those feelings of unsafeness for women and if I would ever notice something done by others I'd try to step up. The whole man vs bear is terrible at doing the same.

Actually the right side graph needs a correction from my point of view. The decline in productivity doesn't happen sharply when the meeting starts. For me the decline starts between 15 to 30 minutes before the meeting slowly, as I can hardly concentrate concerned that I might miss the start. If I'm ever in hyper concentration mode, most likely I'll miss the start of the meeting.

I think I've heard more unhinged things that the one I'm about to mention, but the others are from drunk randos making shit up or over sharing I don't know. The one that really hit me is not as crazy but it still pisses me off to this day and it is far more serious than that drunk guy telling me about how he used to masturbate on the backseats of all buses he could get into.

I've had an issue with my legs since birth, nothing bad and in fact went unnoticed most my life. Just how my knees are built. Never caused a problem until in my twenties I started getting into the gym. A bad trainer (student doing practice) in a gym recommended me some exercise after I asked for something to change the routine. Long story short, I fucked up my knees, even longer story shorter, a doc specialized in legs and specifically knees told me my options, from which the most reasonable at the time was surgery. Surgery for both knees, 1 first, then recovery then the other. A total of two year plan for it.

Mind you the problem was a physical one about the angle of the bones in my knees. A long time friend of my parents, who works as a researcher and teacher of biology in the university of my city called for whatever reason and my mother told of my leg problem.

This person decided that it was excruciatingly important to ask that the phone is passed to me, to tell me not to go to surgery. Risky, dangerous, and completely unnecessary, when I can have a completely safe alternative. Take some homeopathy pills they said, that will get your knees fixed without issues. I was so shocked coming from that person... Mind you I was in my twenties, so not an entire idiot, and I knew a bit about homeopathy... Having read "bad science" by Ben Goldacre (highly recommended by the way) and got into a spiral of alternative shit and research on the stupidest things people get into. I even have an official diploma from Boiron that they basically gave to anyone who cared to answer some answers right about homeopathy back in the day and that it was incredibly easy to hack (wrong answer? Click back and you could try again, in fact the points for the diploma were stored in plain sight in a cookie that never got reset, I ended up with like 120 points out of 50, there were only 5 questions by the way). No security needed as it had no fucking value like the rest of homeopathic stuff. Or is it less security means more secure in homeopathic terms?

Any way, I'm getting derailed, this fucking person tries to sell me into the homeopathic shit to fix the angle of my knees... I was so shocked I couldn't even answer. Just said "okbye", gave the phone away, and asked my parents to never ever put me in the same room with that idiot. It's been manybyears now and so far I've succeeded in avoiding ever seeing or hearing of that person.

I want to absolutely support this advice, especially the last sentence. It's quite hard for a guy that is aware of how they can be seen as threatening to offer help or stop a situation where someone is feeling threatened without making it worse. But asked to help? I'd drop what I was doing and offer some support if someone is feeling threatened right away. Most men are not creepy assholes that would rape you given the chance. On the contrary we hate those assholes too.

Same feeling with the trailer. I just can't see it working, LOTR and animation could work so well, but not with generic anime style. They needed to flesh their own style for this to work well, just like Fortiche did with Arcane.

I can see the connection somehow even if it's a bit out there. I'm ok with people breaking the law when the law is unjust or made to protect those in power. Don't defend the situation just because it's the law because that's the wrong take here.

There must be such a thing as freedom of information and if I'm not mistaken being a whistleblower would usually go against certain laws but it can be somewhat protected. What he's done is on that gray area of whistleblowing and he shouldn't be punished for it, even if it's against the law. This has nothing to do with not liking the victim and you are just gaslighting the complaint of op.

Also, many countries have such thing as freedom of information about taxes paid by everyone, it's not such a horrible thing to be open to anyone. It helps specially to avoid cases of corruption and so on.

I am neither Norwegian nor young, but can only agree with the premise. We have been paying for Netflix for many years, Netflix seemed to be back in the day a company that understood what was needed to be done against piracy. A couple of years ago we thought of adding Disney+ to our subscriptions as it is great for the kids. I'll pay happily if the service and content is worth it, but I can't justify adding also HBO, Hulu, Amazon, Apple+... Guess what happens if I can't watch a show because it's not available where I live (happens too often) or it's in yet another subscription walled platform? And that would be for content I dont even own and can watch whenever, it just might disappear... I also have what I consider a rather large collection of DVDs and BRs, at least I own those but I hate using them (too much unskippable stuff, warnings (threats) against pirating, annoying to use as I need to switch discs for changing content...), and that's just not a good way of discovering new content, its only for those I really like and want to have and rewatch.

I want to watch movie A produced by Disney. As you say I have a ton of arguments to not support Disney. So I don't pay to watch the movie. Now there's two options left, I never watch the movie or I pirate the movie and watch it. By not watching it the only one that suffers is me, Disney couldn't give two shits if I watch it or not. By pirating the movie I get the two things I want, to watch the movie and to not support Disney.

By pirating the movie to watch it I am not impeding anyone's ability to watch it by paying Disney. I'm not taking anyone's movie, no one loses anything, except Disney who loses the money they want me to pay. All those who participated in making the movie are not losing their salaries, they were already paid for the work by Disney, I'm not stealing their salaries (unless they had a contract with Disney to get some % but I can't pay them without paying Disney)

Now let's say I'm a parent, my kids want to watch movie A of Disney, but I don't want to support Disney, do I punish Disney or do I punish my kids by not watching the movie? Or do I pirate the movie for my kids and still don't support Disney's shitty corporate behaviour?
