I definitely agree. I have the luxury of coming from an Electrical Engineering / Computer Engineering background. I did microcontroller programming, designed ALUs, and transistor level work before moving into CS.

Nothing helps you understand a computer better then working with a small microcontroller and building up from there.

Not well. Had some family hurdles crop up so the focus has been elsewhere. The scale of work is also reaching a fever pitch so I mostly just push that through instead of learning German.

I have noticed my ear is getting better. I'm more able to pick out words when people are talking and if they slow down a bit I'm usually able to track many pieces of conversations.

My tracking on train announcements is getting downright routine. Unless the speaker is really busted I can usually get it now. Too much time in train stations, I guess.

Having taught a computer science course on Operating Systems it's even tough to teach a room full of CS undergrads what one is.

The GOP lives to bomb people and destroy the hard earned soft power the US had accumulated. They're just fragile, fearful people with unearned power being the HOA Karens of the world.

Many of these same issues of creativity vs crafting vs the meaning of how things are made were covered in Diamond Age. It's a wild, classic Stephenson novel, but it's themes are being explored in the real world today.

Leopards dine well once again.

If you're anything other than a rich, white, Supply Side Christian, truly cis male you are crazy to associate with the GOP. The core ideals of the party include owning you as farm equipment.

(Updated Christian to reflect the reality on the ground)

When the US fist really started showing Fußball/soccer on TV it was such a shitshow. They kept trying to put in ad breaks, showing individal players while play was happening, and generally not showing the action.

The US doesn't get it yet. Whatever it is about Fußball/soccer. The broadcasters are too stuck on the money during the broadcast instead of the whole experience that the world understands.

250 days? Probably. 250 months?.... I'd not put money on it, depending upon how you define "lasts".

Valid point. I changed it to Supply Side Christian.

Of course, the narrowing of the hierarchy never ends for fascists. Eventually you'll need to be a more specific kind of Supply Side Christian.

The important piece of this to me is this: She made $1 mil on OnlyFans and $42k/year as a teacher. She wants to be a teacher despite making plenty of money from other sources. This tells me that unless you have other evidence of impropriety she's someone we want in the classroom. It also reinforces my stance, along with plenty of other studies that have been performed, that a universal basic income won't stop people from working.

Pay people better and we'll just keep working because we like it. It's part of being human, but we shouldn't be suffering to survive at the same time.

The prior president pardoned a family member who was blackmailing and raping people, then appointed the same criminal to be ambassador to France. I don't give a fuck what President Biden does now. We're a country of criminals and oligarchs now.

According to the US Supreme Court, a US president cannot be prosecuted for crimes (if they're related to their official duties, but whatever goes, I guess). This means that Canada is faced with the fact that they're being attacked by a foreign power with a ruler not beholden to the rule of law. If they give in, they're going to be conquered by a king who is not bound by a national constitution, legislative body, nor courts. This is an existential threat to their freedom as individuals with rights.

STD's aren't diagnosed (mostly) just by looking at people. That's exactly why they're so tough to eradicate.

"It turns out not burning a bunch of fossil fuels leads to less pollution"... news at 11.

The really dumb part of all of this is that people have just accepted cars as the default mode of transportation for so long that it's hard to even envision a world without them. They're normal, despite being expensive, dangerous, horribly inefficient, killing people actively (crashes) and passively (air pollution, plastic in our lungs, parkinsons/dementia, obesity, and more), and directly contributing to isolation in our communities. Every car we can get off the road, especially in our cities, makes the world a better place.
