As a Ukrainian, I can't even imagine ever dodging a bigger bullet than when I left Ukraine before the war started..

If I had stayed there I'd have to either constantly hide from the "draft officers" or risk my life trying to either (of course illegally) cross the border to Romania through mountains/rivers or to the occupied territorries. Or I'd just be dead already from a shell..

Literally life versus death decision.

stopping the worst state sponsor of terrorism from acquiring nuclear weapons

I don't think it's possible unless you invent time travel, but if Trump did stop USA from acquiring nuclear weapons I think he would deserve a Nobel Peace Prize indeed

Start of the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Now I have to worry every day that people I know (who have not managed to escape Ukraine) will either get killed by a Russian rocket or will get kidnapped from the streets by Ukrainian "recruitment officers".

Imagine entire country using coms software operated by the enemy.

Do I get it right that you know that

  • Pavel Durov (the creator of Telegram) has left Russia after refusing to give government information on Ukrainians during 2014 protests (from his previous project - VK, also used by both people in Russia and Ukraine)
  • Russian government's most extensive blocking campaign/attempt was targeted at Telegram
  • Telegram's headquarters are in UAE

and still somehow make a conclusion that "it is operated by the enemy" (assuming that by enemy you mean Russian government)? I'd like to learn more about this logic :)

You don't understand, we NEED to be on AWS, there isn't really another choice.

You don't understand, we NEED to have your phone number in our private messenger.

You don't understand, we CAN'T be on f-droid.

You don't understand, we MUST have centralized servers, federation CANNOT work.

Did I miss anything?

I'm curious, do people downvote it because even after 4 years of kidnappings with countless recordings of this happenning daily they still consider it "Russian propaganda", or are we fully in the "yes, it's happening, but it's not a big deal and we shouldn't talk about it"?

I am in a superposition of being a tankie and not being a tankie at the same time.

Tankies consider me a lib because I dislike DPRK.

Libs consider me a tankie because I dislike "the west".

Oh well

What makes you think that "European independent payment processor" would not pressure companies to follow similar (or worse) rules for "compliance"?

Telegram is indeed neither private nor secure (that is if you don't use secret chats), but the stupidity of people believing the narrative of

Russia-controlled servers

will never cease to fascinate me.

You know which group of people know for certain that this is not true?

Russians.

How can they be so sure?

Because of their government's constant attempts/threats to block it / slow it down. All in an effort to make people move to an actual messaging app controlled by them (MAX messenger).

Yes, absolutely, Russian government is trying to stop people from using an app they control, this totally makes sense.
And if it doesn't, you can always come up with some totally reasonable and totally not a conspiracy theory of them just pretending to trying to block it so that you think it is secure. And people might even believe it. Except for Russians, for whom Telegram voice calls are broken (blocked) again, and MAX is advertised as an alternative.

For fuck's sake...

I see it's really convenient being a Biden supporter, you don't even need any valid arguments, just call everyone a "Russian bot" and you've won the discussion (that is, in the opinion of other Biden supporters) xD

Let me guess, you think Russia/China/etc. banning websites is bad (because obviously they are doing it due to being authoriatarian regimes and to not let people learn the truth), and EU (or generally any western country) banning websites is good (because obviously it would be done to protect democracy and people from consuming dangerous misinformation)?

I am.. not exactly sure actually.
I had to register with "draft office" before I left the country, so they definitely know about me.
Probably I'm not considered a criminal for now, as members of my family who are still in Ukraine did not receive a "draft notice" addressed to me. If they do ever receive it though, then probably I'll be considered a criminal shortly after (because obviously I am not going to answer it).
I don't closely follow the new laws they pass though.. Maybe I am already a criminal because I didn't update my data with the "draft office" or something šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚

I've got a peace plan. Russia leaves Ukraine the fuck alone instead of invading, yeah? This world is too fucken much.

Well, this doesn't look like a realistic peace plan.

Jamecia backs New Zeland-Madagascar peace plan for Ukraine! Who cares!

Oh right, OP probably forgot that only USA can have a say on the matter of international politics.
This post should immediately be removed and we need to go back to parroting "the whole world supports whatever USA supports".

This is incorrect, it is also available in other mobile clients (at least those which are forks of the official one).

Being drafted (which is forced labour where you additionally have a high chance of being killed or wounded) is always not okay, not just when it is done to invade another country.

That's a good question :)

If it's "going back to live there" - then almost definitely no.

If it's "going back temporarily" - then I don't know.

I neither have any property there nor I feel strong "connection" to it , so the only reason for me to go there is to visit my family/friends, but I hope they will be able to visit me instead.

It mostly depends on whether I'll be able to go there without repercussions.
