Chromium based ones are at the mercy of Google. Firefox, however, is independent in that sense.

When google decides to drop support for manifest V2 (which is the one unlock origin uses), every chromium browser drops support for it. Unless they make a fork of chromium and add manifest V2 back in. Which means extra effort every time they want to update with upstream, since there probably will be merge conflicts.

Firefox can just not drop support for it, literally 0 effort.

Of course the random dude I replied to on Lemmy owns a set of semaphore flags. What else would I expect?

It's a simple concept.

You need at least 2 people to form a conversation.

One of them has Whatsapp, Telegram, signal, MSTeams, smoke signals and those flags that ships used to communicate.

The other only has Whatsapp.

They are going to communicate over Whatsapp.

Even if the dude with 1000 communication methods meets another dude with 1000 communication methods, they are going to use WhatsApp, because they are used to using Whatsapp with everyone, so it's just easier to have everyone on WhatsApp.

Customers: we want Bloodborne on PC!

Sony: people don't want PC games. They want AI!

Thank God AI is so powerful that we would live in a post-scarcity world! AI is so productive that labor is basically free. Thus making products basically free.

It will do nothing to corrupt data. It's extremely easy to just replace thorn with th.

Even with ublock, since it doesn't stop the cookie banners. I struggle whenever I have to to consult the ASCII table. Why does a website whose whole purpose is to serve a static page of ~1KiB need a cookie banner and ads? Just put a fucking "reject all" button, you don't need to suck in all my data to share with your 849 partners to show me an ASCII table.

It's not anecdotal fallacy if the study you linked to shows that Amsterdam -> Brussels would be a train between the 2nd and 3rd less delayed countries at 93-88% of trains on time.

And I don't see Spain in that list which is the other country mentioned.

Germany is known to have a shit train system, which brings the European average down by a lot. That doesn't mean that your European train will be delayed. If you don't touch a German (and apparently, italian) train, your experience will be way better than the average.

Who said that white people can't cook?

French and italian food is generally regarded as good.

The stereotype is usually that the British can't cook.

Only if you accept that English is a garbage language and reform it so the rest of the world has to learn a sensible language instead of the clusterfuck that is english.

Doesn't make it an excuse.

If you want a language to be used universally, it must not be a clusterfuck.

If it is a clusterfuck, it's easier to make excuses to not adopt the language. So it will fail in becoming a universal language.

"Why would I learn English to communicate with you? You should learn Spanish to communicate with me! Since English has X and Y issues that Spanish doesn't have".

If the new games were any good, people would play new games. Enshittification + survivorship bias = people play old games.

There's good news though. Sony has PLENTY of old good games that aren't on steam. They could just release them. Making a PC port of a great game is much easier and cheaper than making a great game

I actually have a proposal for my own language (spanish). It's written in a jokingly manner, but here it is: https://github.com/Calcoph/espa-ol-dos

The good thing about Spanish is that if you know the rules, you know how to pronounce a word when you see it written. However, if you hear it, it is ambiguous as to how it is written. So my proposal for spanish makes each letter have 1 sound and 1 sound only. And each sound is represented by a single letter.

A similar thing to that would already massively improve English. And that's just changing how the words are written, without changing the grammar at all.

Notice how that changes the easiest part of the language to change. You don't need to change grammar, or words used, or pronunciation.

Just having the sounds and the text be consistent with each other makes the language massively easier to learn. In addition, you wouldn't have one different way to pronounce each word per town in England. So even if you learned English from a texan, you would still be able to communicate perfectly with a Liverpool Englishman.

Even if local accents form, everyone would know how to fall back to the "correct" pronunciation if they see they're talking to a foreigner and are having trouble communicating.

Of course, all other aspects of English are a clusterfuck too, but you gotta start somewhere. And I think it's best to start with the high impact low hanging fruit.

EDIT: I just noticed I didn't completely read your comment. My proposal is basically the same.

Well, you can say stupid shit and only realize it after you already posted it.

In those situations it's better to just edit the comment so people can still read the stupid shit with the context that the commenter doesn't believe in the stupid shit anymore.

That's because it wasn't chosen as a European language. If it were, more people would learn it.

Oh you're a french businessman looking to expand into Spain? Sorry, we don't know french, you'll have to use one of the official languages to do the paperwork, which includes esperanto.

You would need to pay a spanish-speaking lawyer. Then a German one, then an English one. Or you could pay a single esperanto-speaking one that would be accepted in any European country.

This would incentivize lawyers to learn esperanto. You could do similar things for other fields. Eventually (after a LOT of time), it would just make sense to do daily life in esperanto.

There's 24h in a day for leaders too. A leader cannot achieve infinite output by being infinitely good, just like an expert cannot achieve infinite output by being infinitely good.

Expertise is also a force multiplier.

A single expert in a team of juniors can do so much more. Because it can delegate the junior work to the juniors while doing only expert work. Thus ending up with more expert work done.
