Main developer and lemmy.ml admin Dessalines made this statement lately:

Link: https://lemmy.ml/post/1818412
(!meta@lemmy.ml the comments didn't federate to this server very well)

Lemmy.ml has now blocked threads.net / Meta

It should come as no surprise that the lemmy.ml admin team took about 2 minutes to decide to pre-emptively block threats / Meta. Their transparent and opportunistic scheme to commodify the fediverse and itโ€™s users will not be allowed to proceed.

We strongly encourage other instance administrators to do the same, given the grave threat they pose to the fediverse.

As rumors have it now, Meta may not want to federate with any Mastodon instance but they may want to buy in with larger instances (buseness contracts including NDAs). Which means that some select places/admins may get funding to handle Meta's traffic and extensions, but the large majority will not.

What does RIDF stand for in this context? Not "Rural Infrastructure Development Fund" is it?

Voting is used differently here than it is on Reddit. Here we have no useless karma reputation collecting. So voting serves the sole purpose of sorting posts/comments by relevance. I used the downvote on Reddit very rarely but used to upvote frequently what i liked. Here, i would vote less but use downvotes more.
Upvoted your comment because of the information that followed-up. ๐Ÿ™‚

You are correct that downvoting is kind of pointless.
On the other hand, there has been a bunch of accounts attending this forum lately which appear to act in bad faith (e.g. pathologising and not being interested in the ND point of view, stirring up emotions, sealioning). Interacting with such people will likely lead to a fruitless discussion that just draws energy. These people could look up the non-pathologising resources which were posted already if they were interested.

We probably should be aware that there are indeed people who are really scared of any changes to their pathologic-normative competitive model of society. Scared so much that they will get to aggressive efforts to counteract any healing efforts. It probably boils down to the question, "what to do with cognitive dissonance?"

I'm now inclined to not argue/compete but just check someone's sincerety by asking like, "what is your function in society and what would perhaps be your natural function according to your set of traits, and how can this serve a cure and sustainable future for human civilisation?" (thanks @BackOnMyBS@lemmy.world for originally posting this link)

Re-posting and amending this with my other account, as this is supposed to be the more lucid one.
... And yeah, i am aware that the OP account we are responding to has to date only made this single comment in this forum.

Perhaps add explainer:
This poll is based on the preceeding discussion: [link]. Please make yourself familiar with the discussion before voting.
There is a choice between several options.
Upvote those options you would agree with, downvote those you would not agree with.

(comment to abstain? I know this could be abused. ...)

Add an option: "Do not change the current mode of registration."

... and i like to edit: Some information on how the final choice will be made may also be helpful (this could differ by subject): "The option on which the ratio of upvotes [(sum-of-votes -- downvotes) / sum-of-votes] exceeds that of all others by at least 1.5 : 1 will be implemented; should none meet that target no change will be made."

Compelling concecture. I also wonder if there are really groups of people like that (i mean, how do they behave in physical, that must be sort of punks?) -- or if it is part of an orchestrated disruption and possibly false flag. I read it's only about 15 accounts to block if one wanted to get rid of the obnoxious ones.

Have any hints that back it up?
Edit: do not mind, i have read farther down. It also seems to have deviated from the original CTH community, as in "unfriendly take-over", which was even stated by a HB account.

Besides, this helped me to finally understand the confusion about the "liberal" adjective. It's understood differently in USA, from most everywhere else. :-)

If posted text is not properly "escaped" (meaning possible HTML tags and scripts made non-executable), an attacker can post ("inject") javascript in a comment which is then loaded and executed on other people's browsers. It seems that such a method was used to steal log-in cookies from admin's browsers. The attacker then could log in as the admin and proceed to change stuff in other areas of the site.

Edit: someone posted a screenshot of an app displaying the scipt here: https://lemmy.sdf.org/comment/850269 -- the app doesn't execute JS but displays it as text. That might be the safest way to go atm while malicious comments are spreading over the net.
(From that post we also learn about a fix that came almost immediately, so hopefully this issue is being done with as soon as all vulnerable servers have been updated)

Read that article. If you want a corporate-free social network you got to keep if free of corporate.

Thanks for this statement. I read it as "diagnostic labels are a tool supposed to be used in professional communication but it may be harmful when used otherwise".
IMO, much of that harm could be avoided by just not pathologizing and labeling personal caracteristics as "disorders", though, which are characteristics certain societies could greatly benefit from if such people would just be given the right respect and task.

Technical note, of course the systen needs to remember who voted and who didn't. I heard that it can cause considerable network load at the servers.
