It's not so much hiding as glazing over. The fact that anyone would argue that the civil war was about 'states rights' should tell you how poorly we recall our history

I'll never forget reading a textbook in high-school that acknowledged the genocide of the Native Americans before quickly moving on to talk about how stately and wise the people who killed them were

It was due to their (our) open admission policy.

They wanted a more curated experience, and were concerned that our instances would be full of trolls and bots

They said they would reconsider the decision later

4chan is a great example of what places that consider free speech an indelible right will turn into

People who have the most vile and hostile opinions will flock there and push most of the reasonable people out

Talking to a band of brainwashed idiots who hide their hate behind a thin veneer pseudointellectualism gets old pretty fast and, as /pol/ likes to point out, those opinions color their view of reality and will seep into discussions of seemingly unrelated topics

Most of us don't want to have to deconstruct some non-sensical ideology every time we make a statement. They think this means their opinions are some hidden truth that we can't handle.

The reality is that we can prove them wrong, but they can't or won't accept it so we give up on them and go where there are more reasonable people to interact with

You guys don't really think that, right?

Agree and disagree. They put the cart before the horse on this one for sure. If we solve the problem of unaffordable education, then we can talk about forgiving the student loans of people who didn't get to benefit from the new system

Just forgiving the student loans of a seemingly random block of people makes no sense. The next generation and more importly the universities will expect us to do the same thing later. Guess what that means?

Schools will raise their prices even more and kids will take on even more debt. We can't just slap a bandaid on this and pat ourselves on the back

That makes no sense. You think it's okay to deny service based on race?

I'd bet my left nut reddit will survive for quite a while yet, probably do even better over time

The kind of people who end up here just aren't the target demographic for them anymore

I like the idea of Clarence Thomas with a time machine getting coked up and creating one of those wall charts with string trying to discern which rights he can subvert without harming himself in the present

I will drug and booze myself happy. Just because it's never worked before doesn't mean it won't work this time

After building a PC for the first time a few years ago, I'll never buy a pre-built desktop again (low or high end)

The amount of corners they cut and terrible design decisions they make just so you can't reuse the parts elsewhere are not only criminal from a consumer perspective, but an environmental one as well

Between basic storage being so much larger than it used to be (the 4-8GB days were brutal) and USB-C flash drives that can plug into your charging port, I seldom miss them these days

Still sucks that they removed them as an option though

I see it as a good thing. I don't really want my server full of kids or talked about in the media, and would likely question the motivations of anyone who did

Anyone else really worried about the silent hill 2 remake?

My heart sank when I saw bloober team was making it. It's not that they're a terrible studio or anything, it's just that their past works have lacked subtlety and complexity, two things you really need in a (good) silent hill game

The environment has changed now. Democrats were pissed about the 2016 (2015?) leaks and started crying that Assange was a Russian agent

I'd be pleasantly surprised if Biden relented on this, but surprised nonetheless
