Yes, you're right, there should've been the APK in the latest release already, I missed releasing it and the docker image. It's fixed now, and you could get it there in the latest (as of today) release or, of course, clone the repo and build it yourself.

About F-droid, I want it there too, I have already requested it to be packaged.

It would be you managing it, not a computer. Same thing with org-mode, which you run on a computer. I have used org-mode for years, I created Ontoplano because it didn't solve all my demands: e.g. easily being able to see my Shopping list, checking items I have bought (defined my quantity), reminding me of my bills, allowing me to record an audio, idea, something I have to buy by opening one app in my phone and doing 1 finger movement after that...

These are all out of the top of my head, truth is I've been working on this for many months and it has so many cool features that I have a hard time listing all of them.

Thank you, hope you give it a try.

Anyone know when this started becoming ominous? I'm sure every TV in the sixties didn't have a microphone on their remotes; I am sure pretty much each one being released today has.

I'll try to summarize it:

  • Plan: your week as time blocks, repeating or one-off. You can skip or move a single occurrence and save week templates. External calendars show next to it, and there's an ICS feed out.
  • Board / Todos: today as a kanban board, plus undated todos with tags, filters, attributes and links. Putting a todo on a day schedules it.
  • Weekly review: clear out stale todos and write a note on the week.
  • Notebooks: notes per subject in folders, a diary, ideas, people (birthdays, relationships, every mention of them). Those work as scopes, they can hold everything mentioned here: goals, workouts, inventory, tasks, etc.
  • Goals: numeric targets and progress logs. You can link tasks to a goal, so finishing them moves it.
  • Health: habit tracking with a heatmap, and workouts that log reps, kg and km per exercise. You can put those on a date too, log how much weight you lifted, the distance you ran, etc.
  • Inventory / Shopping: things you own with quantities and restocking. Recipes use inventory items as ingredients, and what's missing goes to the shopping list, which you can open offline in the market to see what is missing.
  • Finance: ledgers, statement import, auto-sorting rules, bills. Also integrates with inventory prices.
  • Media: a gallery and audio recordings. You can put those on notes and tasks, or standalone.
  • Reminders: on blocks and todos. You get notifications on the mobile app or PC.

There are also the integrations I mentioned; the thing about it is that It's keyboard-driven (vim-style keys) too, and you can run it in the phone fully isolated (never sees the internet).

Thanks, happy that you liked it! Check the quick add menu too, it's the same design and allow you to add most of what you'd want to add quickly out of your mind with one finger movement (including audios).

You can also configure it to add those to a particular notebook, by default.

You are correct about almost everything, except that I'd abandon the project. I had been already a software engineer for four years, before AI came along, and I really enjoyed. I agree with you that this party is not gonna last forever, but I still think makes total sense to take advantage of it while it lasts. I don't ask Claude to keep adding features like crazy, I ask it to create specific tests, I ask him to recreate some parts of the codebase using shared components, I ask him to split services from API routes, etc. I try to keep it organized — sure, I am not auditing every of it, because I simply can't, but this is not messy slop. How do I know? Because I've been working HARD for it NOT to be slop, for more than six months.

If you tell me that this is AI generated, I’m going to know that the risk that you’ll abandon it is much higher than if you are working on it yourself

It's not AI generated. From the downvotes I got I see that people mostly don't understand this, but there is huge difference between prompting "Make me a webapp that has tasks, a calendar, todo lists, goals and everything else that's important and make no mistakes so it works well" and from, for the span of six months, carefully thinking about which stack to use, how to structure data, how to present it in forms and readable tables so the UX is not shitty, etc.

I think the FOSS community right now is at some kind of boy-cries-wolf situation where the spam of AI slop is so great that many people are willing to throw the baby out together with the bath water when they see a project that is not slop but that was created with the help of AI:

"Oh look, OP used AI in his project instead of writing code like a good Neanderthal, let's shit on his head"

The truth is we'll all have to adapt. If I, completely by myself, managed to do what I think that is the best life management app out there (yes I am biased) — what could people do together? Maybe the time has come where every proprietary solution has a good, and I mean GOOD, alternative. We can do that, using AI, but surely not if we treat it with all this hostility because of all the evil associated with it — I said I was a software engineer for 4 years before AI came along, you guys think I don't miss it? When I easily felt valued, because I could use my brain to solve REAL problems in the REAL WORLD?

Well, that time is over. Cry now, cry later, or don't cry at all and try to do the best with the shit timeline we're stuck in.

I am trying to create a single life-management app (calendar, tasks, bills, notes, goals, reminders etc.) too.

FOSS, self-hostable, obviously. I've been developing it for 6 months as of now, and I am actively working on improving it and making it available in F-droid (and the Play Store too, for that matter)

It's meant exactly to help people deGoogle themselves.

Anyways, I don't want to be advertising it too much because I am new here and don't want to get banned, but I think this is very much justified, whoever wants to check it out, here is the GH repo

Sure, but “you can script it yourself” is a very different value proposition from the software actually providing the feature. By that standard, any sufficiently extensible application can “do” almost anything. And Ontoplano itself goes into that category, since it comes with a REST API and webhooks, making it easily scriptable too.

Thanks, I'm very glad to hear that.

It will be as much free as possible, I'll only charge for people who want to use my hosted instance at app.ontoplano.com. I am working now on developing a self-contained mobile version, as a third option of how to use the app: everything on the phone, but no computer sync, no MCP server, no API endpoints (stuff that requires accepting external calls) — for that, you could use the official instance I host and maintain backed up and enjoy these features, or host it yourself and enjoy them as well. Those will be the three ways of using it, for what I've thought so far.

As for as how to support me without donating, since this project is in very early development: anything that broadcasts the project helps: social network following, star on github, letting your friend know about it... you can also help by using it, be it by self-hosting or subscribing to my paid instance, and reporting suggestions / bugs on github.

I got tired of all the back and forth, but you guys were definitely right about the transparency of having a note explicitly saying what I am doing making things generally better

I wanted it to work in multiple OS and platforms, a web app is ideal for that. Also, vibe coding lean native apps doesn't scale as well as using a framework like Svelte, which I have used since the pre-AI era and am comfortable reviewing what the AI does.

I manage to understand this issue btw. It was actually my VPS firewall throttling first-time users, should be good now

How did you get this? Bugs are expected, it's fairly new software that hasn't been tested by many people besides me.

Yeah, this is my second post here, so I was already expecting this reaction TBH. Still, I do think my app provides value, so I am willing to sail through the sea of AI-hate.

I'm not even an AI lover; I wish it didn't existed, but it does, and here we are. As of now, with the current token prices, it is simply much more efficient (by orders of magnitude) than tradcoding, so companies are not gonna waste time and money on ideology: will be really hard to not be a vibecoder and still have a job.

It has many features beyond what Trilium (which is a primarily note-taking app) offers, such as: finance tracking, inventory management, goals & tasks with linking and priority, workout & habits logging, and especially reminders and alarms: trillium has no official mobile app, only the PWA, which can't access android alarm permissions. These are out of the top of my head.

But Trillium has more features regarding notetaking specifically, of course, some of which I intend to implement in the future. But yeah, is older and battle-tested, so I understand your decision.

You can just not use the MCP server, it works through scoped tokens that you'd have to create yourself.
