Space: Above & Beyond. I thought it had some interesting ideas that were never given a chance to be fully explored.
Babylon 5. It's probably up there as #5 in your top 4, tbh.
Planet of the Apes. 1970s movies and TV series.

Firefly (and it's movie, Serenity). I just didn't enjoy them, just didn't click with me.

I've got 3 of them...

  1. I liked Prometheus. I had no issues with Covenant, enjoyed it as well.
  2. I'd like to see more original sci-fi shows than just yet another time-travel or evil alien/AI destroys humanity scenario. I enjoy them, but I'd like to think there's a lot more to the future than just those two possibilities.
  3. I've never seen Firefly or Serenity and have no interest in doing so.

No, most western folks don't know what it takes to put food on the grocery shelves or into the freezer section. They've no clue to the work involved on the backs of labor and exploitation, and unsanitary conditions/processes all in the name of cheaper labor and higher stock dividends.

Never seen an albino squirrel before. Thanks for sharing!

I tried a Creality Ender 3 a couple of years ago. Struggled a lot, for me, it required a lot of aftermarket replacements to make it work well. I sold it about 6 mo later.

In Mar, I bought an Anycubic Kobra. Out of the box, worked like a champ and has continued to. None of the struggles I had with the Ender. Only add on was a sensor to let me know when I'm out of filament.

You'll probably hear from folks who bought an Ender and had great success, and folks who struggled w/a Kobra, though. It's like an automobile... you're going to hear good and bad stories for each model.

Honestly, I read a lot of articles and just found what fit my use case, expectations and budget. Your first one will definitely be a learning experience.

Good luck!

Mostly re-reading Classic Traveller 3 little black books from 1977. Amazing how much of a complete game is there and yet an open framework for implementing just about any sci-fi setting you can imagine. That is, if you're willing to do the work that 1977 RPGs expected from referees. Definitely not an "open and just run table procedures" type of game!

So many good ones named, but I'm going to go with

  1. The Hammerhead from "Space: Above & Beyond"

  2. Any/all of the fighter ships from the video game series "Wing Commander"

  3. How come nobody's mentioned the fantastic Eagle Transporter System from Space-1999??????

I played "Advanced Dungeons & Dragons" on the Intellivision that my g/f had at the time. Most everyone else had Atari 2600s, so it felt rare (at the time) to play on it. It had a funky controller with weird keypads and a disc that was like a joystick, but hard to play with.

For players that want crunch: AD&D 1e (if they can't get the books, then OSRIC is the AD&D retroclone).

For when I want to make a setting and need D&D rules: OD&D - the original 3 books. I need little else. If folks need a PDF, the Swords & Wizardry White Box 3rd printing is free and handy.

For when I want to make a setting and need sci-fi rules: Classic Traveller - I'd use the original 3 little black books from 1977, but anything from the classic era (1977-1985, pre Mongoose) works. If folks need a PDF, the CT "facsimile" is the 1981 version with errata applied.

Deer, waterfowl, squirrels, turkeys - that's whats here in the Midwest. Hell, if those "super hawgs" come far enough, I'll hunt those as well. At my age of 50+, I'm just now really getting into the "learning" of hunting that I should have done earlier in age.

Good luck to you both on your farm.

You're not the only lefty redneck around. ;)

Funny enough, I've gone in the reverse direction.

But I think if I were to do that, I would: be up front with players, try to mask a lot of the mechanics (unless the switch was to bring crunch to the players), be patient and willing to backtrack, have some after-game-discussions on how things went.

Nice to see that Marc's kept this up there for free. It's a great version if folks don't have the originals and/or want to play a great game!

It's a good search target for what has happened up to 12 Jun 23... after that? I can go incognito to reddit, get what I need then come back to here and continue using this as a resource and share what I've got.

As someone who has to write RPG settings and scenarios, if I can't be consistent with the tech or magic, then I think of what would be the easiest way to do something.

In this case? If I had to do this and didn't want to throw in crazy tech? Easiest way to stop the Heroes? The Villains bribe/blackmail someone to interrupt the jump, or they've planted a device to sabotage the engines at a certain time. They're waiting at that point.

Nothing like a good ambush AND some intrigue ("how did they do that?")

My players hate when I interrupt their journey. We're on month 3 of adventures due to an interrupted journey... and now they trust NOBODY!

For the US, every state has their own rules, as well as individual sites on what you can do, how you can do it. If you're on a Federal site, usually it's a mix of state rules and Federal rules.

Part of the responsibility is to know those rules and follow them. Yea, it can get confusing and hard, but that's part of the deal, so gotta be done. Much better to pick up the phone and call or shoot an email and ask questions, than to not and get a visit...

In the US, conservation officers don't mess around. They definitely can be on the unpleasant end of FAFO.

OD&D - mostly sticking to the 3 LBBs from 1974, with a dash of the supplements here and there. PCs are exploring my Dungeon23 creation.

AD&D/1e - continuation of my 14 year campaign. 3 separate groups in the same world, 1 is PbP, 2 are online (though one will go back to face-to-face in late summer)

Classic Traveller - just the 3 LBBs from 1977, in a mashup of Battlestar Galactica 1978 and 2003 TV series. No 3rd Imperium elements.

My style? I like to focus on roleplay and put the mechanics behind the screen as much as possible, though AD&D tends to not support that. But I try. OD&D/CT77 definitely promote that style of play.

idk, when I've watched snippets or clips, it just doesn't appeal to me? I always got the impression, to me, that it looked like "Friends in space".

The fandom hasn't bothered me, everything has a rabid fandom. You should see the frothing at the mouths when I dare to say that I liked the new Starbuck as much as I liked the old Starbuck from BSG 2003/1978.
