Context: the philosopher Plato defined a human as "a featherless biped," and the philosopher Diogenes showed him how stupid that definition was by holding up a plucked chicken. BEHOLD! A MAN!

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Whenever I see a Grumpus_Maximus post and don't understand the context, I just Google reddit historymemes "[post title]." They're all just scraped directly from reddit.

Frank "The Blonde Devil" Marshall Jiménez was a Costa Rican liquor smuggler, deputy, anti-communist paramilitant, general, member of the Hitler Youth and leader, and founder, of the first and only fascist movement in Costa Rica's history

Also, I think "Groyper" is a reference to followers of Nick Fuentes, a far-right white nationalist influencer/livestreamer who just happens to have a Hispanic surname.

Matt said: “It was a very embarrassing accident. One of the issues with being so large, especially in hot water showers, is that it’s not exactly easy to see my feet.

“Especially when I move too fast, it can definitely mess with my balance, too. As I was rushing to get ready for work, I didn’t see the excess shower gel in the tub because my penis was the only thing in my eye line.

Right, because a fifteen-inch penis is totally going to obstruct your view of both feet and everything else below your waistline, and your dick is totally the reason you clumsily slipped. And you totally aren't looking for every possible excuse to turn any event of your life into another opportunity to brag about your massive, record-breaking schlong.

🙄

Personally I laughed out loud because I expected it to be one of those "mind blowing" facts like "Cleopatra was born closer to the release of the iPhone than to the construction of the pyramids," but OP turned it into a shitpost by making a really obvious statement instead. It subverted my expectations. Barvo, OP, brvao

The headline made me think this was something shady, but it's actually pretty cool. A teeny-tiny little incorporated community out in the wilderness with a decades-long tradition of voting at midnight, so they can be the first in the nation to announce their results.

This isn't a "news story from a credible source," this is a blog post about a Twitter thread and it offers absolutely no context or insight.

What is the protest about? Why is the U.S. Secret Service involved?

The LAPD put out a statement saying they're aware of people exercising their first amendment rights by protesting, and that they'll be on site to ensure public safety. That seems pretty damn reasonable to me. I don't trust the police either, but if you're going to immediately draw a connection between this event and horrific police brutality, please give me something more substantial than "they worded a tweet awkwardly."

"Oniony headlines" lose their impact when they're placed at the top of inflammatory fluff pieces.

edited for clarity

Yep! The Great Pyramid of Giza was completed about 2400 years before Cleopatra was born, whereas the first iPhone was released about 2074 years after Cleopatra was born.

Curious if you mean psychopathic?

I mean, it's easy to joke that Republicans suffer from psychoses (hallucinations and delusions) but in the context of extreme antisocial behavior and lack of empathy, psychopathic might be the right word.

Kind of misleading headline. She went out of her way to explain to the interviewer that it had nothing to do with marijuana and she was going to treat it as though he had asked who would be fun to be around, like who she would get a pedicure with or something like that.

To recap - a podcast host asks her who she would smoke a blunt with, she pointedly reframes the question, The Hill picks it up and runs a headline implying that she wants to smoke a blunt with Dwayne Johnson anyways.

Yes, she's been very upfront about it. She makes it clear at her fundraising events that the proceeds are going to charitable organizations. Her campaign has been soliciting canned goods and menstrual hygiene products, instead of cash, in exchange for yard signs and stickers.

I get your cynicism, it's a well-known adage that anyone who seeks power doesn't deserve it. But for as long as we have elected federal representatives, I'd prefer to elect representatives who actually make tangible efforts to take care of people. Even if you see it as self-serving, to me it's refreshing to see a candidate appeal to voters' compassion instead of appealing to their fears and prejudices.

I wouldn't, but then again I'm not a drunk Marine.

Like the other user above, I've also never heard of the Totenkopf and I don't recognize the emblem. Looks like any other skull and crossbones to me. I'm not saying it isn't a harmful symbol, but I can understand how a lot of people would be totally ignorant to its history like I am.

If they were called the College Nazis then everyone reading this would assume they were some weird, fringe, extremist group with no popular support whatsoever.

But they're not. They're called the College Republicans of America, and the whole reason this is newsworthy is because of the clear link it draws between Nazism and the Republican party.

I'm all for calling them Nazi scum, but let it be known that these Nazi scum claim to be directly aligned with Donald Trump and the Republican platform.

It's hard for me to find sympathy for someone who murdered two children and their mother.

But even I have to admit that it feels fucked up to wait 40 years for a man to develop dementia and heart disease before executing him.

All of the above are true, right? They had advanced astronomy, agriculture, ceramics, economics, and systems of government while living in the Stone Age. Their tools and weapons were made of wood and stone, right? Not bronze?
