My mother was the abuser in my home. She abused me and my father. That fact doesn't prevent me from knowing that men are statistically more likely to be the aggressor. I don't know what I'm trying to say with this comment. Life is scary and hard enough. May we all only share and receive kindness.

Xx love you.

My mom mentioned that my dad has been watching some concerning (in her words, "annoying") YouTube content lately. Last time she said that it was America's Got Talent, but this time it's white men arguing with cops. I visited and asked if he would show me. He jokingly said "are you gonna violate my rights?" And I very seriously said "yes. I need to make sure it's not Jordan Peterson or Joe Rogan or someone even worse". He got a little bit offended and said "you know me better than that, I'm smarter than that". But the thing is, you start by watching something innocuous like some idiot sovcit arguing with cops and the algorithm pipeline feeds you nazi shit from there and you don't even know it.

For context, my parents are the kind of leftists that don't know what leftists are. My mom calls herself a bleeding heart liberal, and my dad sees the media say things like "radical liberals" and jumps up off the couch screaming "you bet your ass im a radical liberal!" But they're left of liberal, they just don't have the language for it.

I'm not worried that my dad is gonna seek out nazi propaganda, im worried it's gonna find him anyway and I want to throw his phone in a lake.

Maybe shower thoughts wasn't the right community for me to have my existential crisis. But I wish i could block "sovcit" on my dad's phone and "trad-anything" on my mom's phone, not because I think they're dumb (okay maybe a little) but because this shit is so toxic and intrinsic and scary and my parents are so dumb.

Take care of yourself and your loved ones xx

I don't usually feed the trolls, but I'm going to engage w you as if you were being genuine.

I used to watch Joe Rogan w my ex. My ex was a Bernie Bro. It turned into Jordan Peterson and Andrew Tate. Now he dates women 10 years younger than him and I live with a roommate and am paying off his luxury car that I co-signed for him that has since been repossessed. He kicked me out of the apartment that I paid for because "he couldn't stand to share his bed with me anymore" because Andrew tate told him he could do better than me. Look, people break up for lots of reasons. We weren't a good match from the start. But the idea that he's some high value alpha and I'm a used up ho is just so fucking silly, it was the stupidest most embarrassing way for my 7 year relationship to have ended.

It's important to hear the opinions of people who disagree with you if they are being genuine. Joe Rogan and the rest are not good faith people. They are promoting disinformation and hate. And I think you are too.

I watched my dad end a lifelong friendship because the friend got sucked down the right wing garbage chute. He has not rebounded from his loss, but he can't tolerate that friendship and just "not talk abt politics" around the guy.

Be better, my dear. I will not respond again.

My grandpa's life partner came into his life after my dad was an adult but before I was born, so she's been in the family longer than I have. She never wanted to be called anything other than her first name, but by all measures, she is my grandma, and I love her. So I've had the typical grandma/grandpa names for mine, but I also have an Izzy, and that's really special to me.

I'm excited and pre-registered. I didn't pay for sync for reddit, but now that I am more educated about the life of developers and third party apps, I will def pay for sync for lemmy. I have heard good things about some of the existing apps, but I have just been using the web browser while I wait for the sync app to be ready, and I am so ready to download and use it. <3

I'm young and ignorant, so I don't know what I'm talking about and I'd be open to anyone posting any links for me to learn from. But I remember being in middle and high-school 20 years ago, and learning about the UN's "millennium goals" that they were trying to achieve by 2015. And they were... awesome. Like the real definition of awesome. They were awe-inspiring. And they made me hopeful as a young teen. And I remember when 2015 came and went and they hadn't even come close to meeting those goals. And I remember thinking, okay, well, they'll keep trying. But they didn't keep trying, and in fact I never heard anyone talk about the millennium goals ever again. And then 2016 came, and at least from my American-centric viewpoint, the world has been on a rapid decline since then. And I am honestly so hopeless, like rock bottom hopless, like, I don't know what the future is gonna be, but i can't imagine a good one if we stay on this path, and I don't know what to do, because I'm not a world leader.

I used to have so much respect and admiration for the UN but they're just as garbage as every other power in the world. This post is a fucking joke. My ex partner is from Saudi. I remember excitedly asking him about his opinion and his families opinion when women were first given permission to drive and he was DISGUSTED. Said "this should have happened ages ago, Saudi is using this as a PR move, why should we be happy that women are just now getting this right?"

Anyway. Sorry for the long response to your sarcastic comment. Have a good day. Xoxo.

I can envision three types of men reacting to this:

A) cool empathetic good guys like Pedro pascal who will realize this is a hyperbolic joke and chuckle a lil bit B) insecure, but not bad dudes who will get all huffy and respond with "#notallmen" C) scary mean men who will take great offense and yell or break things because this meme hurts their feelings but they only understand rage

This analysis, of course, is also a jokey joke and not a doctorate level dissertation, and therefore, it should not be taken too seriously.

Love you all, be safe. May we all meet a Pedro today.

Hey friend. Hope this finds you well. The Ramen I got from aldi's on my last trip is definitely valentine's themed, there's hearts all over the package, and a "to: from:" spot on it. I don't know if that will bring you any comfort or if it will just make you more frustrated, but I do hope it makes you feel a lil better ♡ (struggling to upload a picture of it, I'll see what i can do about that)

The first thing my mom did when we moved into our house when I was 8 was take my door off it's hinges. It wasn't even a punishment, I just wasn't allowed to have one, i just got a curtain. My dad installed a door on my room when I was 17, two weeks before I moved away for college, because it was about to become the guest room, and wouldn't it be weird if the guest room didn't have a door?

Idk if this counts as a phrase, but on the internet, people talk about their pets crossing the rainbow bridge when they die. That's not how the rainbow bridge poem goes. Pets go to a magnificent field when they die. They are healed of all injury and illness. When you die, they find you in the field and you cross the bridge together. It's much sweeter the way it was written than the way people use it.

There's a unique trauma that comes from watching your parents be wrong like this. If your teacher were a normal person, your dad could have been correct. A normal teacher may have said, "this wasn't the assignment, but good effort, good proactive problem solving, good teamwork with your dad". Instead, your dad, who you trusted, who you looked up to as brilliant and infallible (I'm generalizing here, abt kids and parents, maybe not your relationship specifically), convinced you to think outside the box and then you were punished for it.

My mom had a typewriter and then we were one of the first families to have a computer and a printer among my classmates, and my mom always made me type my homework because she thought it would impress the teacher. I got in trouble because I was supposed to be practicing handwriting. The teacher never told my mom tho, so i was made to type at home every night. And then I'd just re-write it on the bus in the morning. And it would look bad because the bus was moving haha! And now I have TERRIBLE handwriting!

It's a charcuterie board, not a cutting board, its for parties, the illustrations are telling you what kinds of snacks to put out. What a cool idea for a lap desk, it's so pretty and unique.

A lot of people assume this is the correct way to speak because it's chronologically correct, but the general consensus in the trans community is that she was always Chelsea Manning, and always was a woman, and the time that she spent using the other name and gender need not be reflected upon. I do not know how Chelsea Manning personally feels about this, and every individual is entitled to their own respect, however the general etiquette when you do not know is to NOT deadname or misgender them, regardless of what era of their life you are referring to.

This is not an attack. Just a PSA.

Have a peaceful evening.

Someone on Lemmy, I wish I remembered and could credit them, called them FARTs- Feminism Appropriating Radical Transphobes. I've been telling all my friends to do that, it feels right.

I got molested by my dad's friend when I was fifteen, and my dad invited him to my sixteenth birthday a few months later. I had a temper tantrum and smashed my cake on the ground and cried all night, but to this day have never told anyone why I was so upset.
