I do the exact same thing I have my old phone unused so I made it as linked phone and enabled local backups.

Yeah I run linux on my laptop and dont use microslop windows and migrated totaly to selfhosted forgejo and made codeberg as a mirror.Waiting to to buy the required hardware to selfhost nextcloud.

I only told my close contacts to switch to signal and they did without any further question but other contacts didnt want to loose the mainstream.

Yeah But I choosed it because its more like a replica to whatsapp so people can easily understand using it and dont need to relearn stuff. Also I am trying to limit US releted tech and going fully decentralized platform like lemmy,mastodon,peertube and pixelfed.

I dont want to get influenced by others. What I do is totaly well understood by me and I Felt that I am forcing people to switch but I realised it thats why I posted this on the forum so people can give their thoughts with their perspective and experience.When I read your pervious comment It reflected my worries of forcing people to make a switch.I like foss as it gives me control and I can do whatever I want with it. I use arch btw(joke).

Yeah I dont have a facebook account and only had whatsapp but My friends asked me many times to create an insta account so I did it because of their constant request. I have it in my browser with adblock enabled also restricting js from facebook.net (tracking) domain.

True , I have an instagram account which I check twice a week only for DM Also I dont chat to anyone via instagram as it lacks E2EE and don't want to expose any sensitive data to Meta. If anyone wants I tell them to chat via whatsapp but yeah it also a No Go but people prefer it instead of installing a new app and register in it. I dont like instagram and whatsapp but people prefer it more.

Actually when I asked my close ones to switch to the alternative platform and they did it without any further question . But I don't want to force people to change , What can I do is Spread awarness about it.

I totaly agree that forcing someone to switch from anything is wrong (I did it then regret it ) and I dont want to controll anyones life but what I am doing now is spreading awarness about the big tech influence on us and the alternate to get rid of big tech and take control of our life. But its sad to see many people are not aware of the influence of the big tech in our life.

I am in control of my own life not others
