Literally in a car with an immigrant right now who voted Trump because things were cheaper before covid.

FFS.

Sorry but maybe I'm missing something here.

AFAIK, mikkelson got pushed out because he plagiarized and caused all kinds of issues. The co-owners took back all shares. The sale to Sovrn was their adtech company, not Snopes.

Richardson and Schoentrup still own Snopes.

Sovrn Holdings does not own Snopes based on any information shared here.

Obviously I'm not on blahaj, but I think the decision is pretty on point for the goals of blahaj.

It also makes me disappointed in feddit.uk. "Leave it to discussion/votes" is bullshit and just support for the behavior.

Edit: The admin responded elsewhere with "we want to make sure we comply with the law".

My comment remains unchanged. Allowing this is support. Fuck your bullshit law. You're explicitly supporting this bullshit by your inaction.

She's not white, but...

Sweet milky cheeses what a horrible sentence!

I am fully aware she is garbage too for marrying that d-bag, but how can she possibly be ok with someone who would even utter this sentence?

“I’m not against what the government is doing,” Arquimedes Orellana said. “I mean, I know the government is working to improve the country. I mean, he wants to see the country prosperous, and that’s excellent, but it’s not fair that they take innocent people, people who are productive for the country.”

Absolutely blinded by their hope for what they thought the US was.

Anecdotally... About 75% of the right that I know/met.

The other 25% is a mix of racism, greed, and conspiracy theory.

The old adage used to be that an empty rental was costing you money. Landlords would work for around 75+% occupancy, and to achieve that the price would also stay lower, to keep it occupied.

Then the price fixing of airlines happened, and the guy responsible (whose name I can't recall at the moment - maybe someone else does?) went into real estate with the same software approach. The theory? If you can charge enough off of a few to pay for all the others, then occupancy doesn't matter.

Let's use the numbers from the OP - $700 and $3600, with a 20 year gap. The post is from several years back, but let's use 2004 and 2024 for inflation calcs. $700 in 2004 is just a hair under $1200 today, so with a cost of $3600 - triple - that would mean one tenant has the same value to them as three. So if you have 6 units and have 3 tenants, you're now making a LOT more money overall, as those two tenants provided the same as six under the older model.

TL;DR: Shitty people and shitty companies trying to get the most money they can, with zero regard for the impact of these decisions.

The primary issue that incited this was because we don't fully agree with the admin's moderation policies.

Clearly the community does though.

Which means the community is perfectly happy to continue on blahaj, its you, as the mod team, that aren't aligning with the community.

As someone who enjoys 196 (but only really participates by voting), I would just say that since you aren't aligning with the community, this isn't a community you should be moderating.

Make the !onehundredninetysix@lemmy.blahaj.zone mods the mods of !196@lemmy.blahaj.zone and move on.

I dunno.

I might go grab a bottle of champagne or something. Maybe indulge in a nice bit of cheese to go with it.

What's awful about this is, this technology would be amazing for some people.

My father had ALS, the first thing to go was his voice. As a result, the tools at the time to give him his own voice back (using text-to-speech apps) couldn't make due with what we had, we would have needed to have the recordings of the specific sounds already in specific phrases.

Since then, there have been improvements in leaps and bounds. I could remake his voice today with what I have of him on video. I wish I could have done this for him when he was alive. My daughter could have heard him speak in his own voice, instead of a meh sounding tts voice or a family member reading what he said to her.

But instead of looking to doing amazing things like that for people, we get companies pulling this bullshit.

The engagement ring I bought lived on a shelf in the living room for a few months waiting for the trip I intended to propose during.

My wife had no idea. It was hilarious to show her pictures I took of her looking at things on the shelf and not noticing, like picking out a movie and just completely missing the big wooden ring box.

Which i guess is a long way of saying I love this game!

Ultimately, the Minimal Phone is not made for the user who wants to completely disconnect but reduce the scope of their phone's capabilities. In that sense, I recommend it as a secondary device or as a daily carry you keep on your person, with a smartphone anchored at home or in the office.

Racism, basically.

Vance told an easily disproved lie about Haitian migrants eating cats, which the racists that will vote for him like hearing because they are weird and hateful.

But if I had to bet, he heard someone say Haitians are good at eating another word for cats, and since that's not an option for that sofa cushion pushin', he was confused.
