For what it's worth, I agree with you completely. LLMs are objectively a useful tool (and a fascinating technology - or rather, machine learning in general is), although I think the way it is pushed by "AI" companies is abhorrent in pretty much every way from environmental damage to intellectual property theft.

I think open weight models are a good compromise. I have tried out a few quantized models locally, and while they more often make mistakes than proprietary models, I can really see their potential. I hope in a few years we will have capable open models running on (high-end) consumer hardware. At least then I personally could use LLMs with good conscience.

And coding is such a great fit for LLMs since it is systematically verifiable and also often very repetitive. By following even the most basic principles of programming (TDD, design, code review, ...), you won't in practice care whether the code is written by hand or machine. If it lives up to your code standards and passes your tests, then it works! Thanks for your insight.

And now the Trump administration can celebrate a "victory" since they made EU release a portion of their emergency reserves to lower gas prices in time for the midterm elections. A solution to a problem caused by them, at Europe's expense.

Why they aren't getting slammed for causing this is beyond me.

Shout out to Qobuz, I started my digital collection there. They sell DRM-free downloads in FLAC format (when available, otherwise MP3)

I agree. After being here for a while, I realized that my feed is always depressing and negative, and the comments and discussions are as well, to the point where I pretty much stopped using Lemmy for a while. But I guess the solution is simply to seek out other communities that are more positive - there should be plenty to choose from :)

I think it is kinda the same 'echo chamber' problem that other social media has - I feel my own opinions are being reinforced to the extreme, and while I am glad to be with like-minded people, it is also very exhausting.

Anyway, time to go exploring new communities!

Yes - it replaces the launcher (your home page, I guess you could say), but you can still download apps from the Google App Store and use them (such as Plex).

I have used FLauncher and now use Projectivity, and it is a great way to get rid of all the ads and bloat while keeping the TV fully functional.

Seems like a very cool learning tool - I definitely learned about some new selectors that may be useful some day :)

I use Lutris, and it works really well. A native Linux client would definitely be welcome, though!

I listen mostly to progressive metal, which is kinda niche, and I've found pretty much anything I went looking for. Not sure about indie acts in general. Try browsing their download store - my only gripe with them is that the UI is pretty bad. The service is solid, though.

Also, seeing as they are DRM-free downloads, you could use Qobuz as a supplement to bandcamp for bands that are not on bandcamp, or vice versa :)

I've been using Brave on iOS - it works fine for me as an alternative to Firefox.
