Do they pay every time someone checks out a book?

If you happen to read this, Mr. Stallman, I wish you you a swift and full recovery. We need more in this world like you. Thank you for all that you have done for the world and your tireless advocacy of Free Software!

I don't usually downvote on Lemmy, but this is a real test of willpower.

Kevin Mitnick was truly legendary. I particularly respect the fact that he reportedly never stole a dime from anyone, and that he ultimately used his skills for good. His services helped protect many people including government entities from hacking attacks. The world lost a great man too soon.

For sure, it's the same story with this misunderstood victim of circumstance too, no doubt.

If you're in the US and care about domain privacy, don't get a .us domain. .us domains are specifically forbidden from using domain privacy.

I stuck with Windows for the longest time because of gaming, but for my needs that's no longer necessary. If it's been a while since you tried Steam on Linux you might want to give it another try.

Check out Professor Messer on YouTube. Super professional and comprehensive exam prep videos are available on his channel for free. I relied on his videos, a flash card app, and Mike Myers CompTIA A+ study guide when I was broke and trying to get A+ certified and into the IT field. It worked out for me. I owe Professor Messer a debt of gratitude.

Thanks for the heads up. I just cancelled my subscription. I had premium but $23 per month is ridiculous.

A little off topic from your DRM/open source query, but since so many people are praising brother, in my opinion they are ruining their printers due to the jacked up toner cost. It's not even just brother. Basically all the greedy printer manufacturers have all but ruined affordable laser printing. Years ago you could buy a brother printer for a reasonable cost that used toner that cost about a penny per page to print. They shrank the toner cartridges but didn't reduce the cost so it's not uncommon to speed a few cents a page on toner these days. Compare that with the current ink tank options and you'll find the cost is way lower at around $.002 per page. The biggest trade off in my opinion is that you have to print to them regularly or they clog up and they are slower, but they are definitely a better value.

TL DR: greedy printer manufacturers ruined laser printers. Buy an ink tank printer instead until they ruin inkjets again.

I can't believe zip tie guy just got 5 years. That's some bullshit. He goes into the capital with zip ties, so obviously ready to participate in kidnapping, and gets off with 5 years? Petty drug offenses have resulted in far stiffer punishments. Fuck that guy. He should be under the jail.

Yes, they can easily park 3 or more feet out toward the road. It's like they park this way to protect their precious car by leaving it farther from the road, but it screws over pedestrians. As far as utility trailers and campers blocking the full width of the sidewalk, they don't belong there at all, and since they are only there sometimes I can only assume that yes, they have somewhere better to park.

Edit: 3 feet is about 1 meter for folks using sensible measurement units.

While you may not be remembering it from nothing, you were obviously misinformed. This is easily verifiable.

Agreed. I am posting from my personal Lemmy instance but I also have a lemmy.world account. I don't like the direction lemmy.world has been moving in and I am opposed to the way they use and promote Discord.

The thought crosses my mind, but I wouldn't do that. What I do always try to make a point to do is walk on the sidewalk side, even if it's really tight so that hopefully they will notice someone is uncomfortably close to their precious car/trailer/camper. Hopefully they will think it's going to get scratched and leave more room next time.
