This is a well written piece.

Case by case, there may be good reasons for teams to work together in person. As a general rule, though, it turns out that ordering people back to the office full time is a power and status move. It’s a signature strategy of leaders who exhibit narcissistic qualities. They see any kind of remote work as a threat to their authority and admiration. They want to be worshiped at the office altar.

TL;DR: it's about swinging their dick around.

The size of the code base and therefore attack surface.

The sudo source code is approximately 160,000 lines of C.

Doas was written for OpenBSD (after the OpenBSD project decided sudo was too large to ship in the system base) with a source code of roughly 500 lines of C.

Obviously those extra lines of code bring features to sudo that doas doesn't have.

More code means there's more room for bugs and security flaws that can be exploited, and it's more difficult to reason about the code to find those flaws.

The general security jargon for that concept is 'attack surface'.

Yes. Because people are not the only observers.

What qualify as observers though? Or, how far divorced from an event counts as unobserved?

If a tree falls in a forest and scares a rabbit which a dog barks at which I hear... is that chain of observation enough to grant existence to the tree?

Farscape is even directly referenced in SG-1's 200th episode, by Vala.

Farscape is great. Give it a try.

Ah, good point.

Though for the most part I suspect a flowchart from IRD is probably all most people would need.

Not really, if one can handle five tax brackets then one can handle seven.

If one has built or bought a shitty payroll tool, then that's one's problem and no one else's.

IMHO the tax brackets should be defined by a minimum wage multiplier.

E.g. someone part time on minimum wage: 0%, full time minimum wage: 5% and so on... Go as high as necessary.

Corporate tax? Every $ they're paying tax on could have been used to pay their employees better.

If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until you can hardly bear to look at it.

A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.

Hmm, maybe. I suspect that the median income is quite close to minimum wage :-/ at least in magnitude.

Mean income as a floor for the larger tax rates would shift the tax burden up over the mean... and egregiously large incomes would drag that floor up.
