Wir hatten gestern Abend mal überraschend ein paar Stunden Abkühlung, aber davon abgesehen sind wir gerade mitten in einer Hitzewelle, bei der mir die Nina-Warnapp heute schon Alarmstufe rot gibt und es soll gegen Ende der Woche eher schlimmer als besser werden mit Fühltemperaturen deutlich über 40°C.

Nein. Das Video ist erst ein paar Tage alt und sehr gut. Das darf noch im Kopf präsent sein.

Und vermutlich wollen sie alle nach Hause telefonieren. In meinem HA läuft ganz bewusst nichts, was selbstständig mit dem Internet kommunizieren kann. Lampen, Lichtschalter und Heizungsventile laufen komplett über einen Zigbee-Hub, dem der Router verbietet, mit irgendwas anderem als dem HA-Server zu sprechen.

Und bevor jemand fragt, warum ich überhaupt sowas im Einsatz habe: uralte Mietwohnung mit mehreren Durchgangszimmern, die jeweils nur an einem Ende einen Lichtschalter hatten. Da ich nicht mal eben die Wände aufreißen kann, um alles neu zu verkabeln, musste Funktechnik her und wenn die Infrastruktur schon existiert, kann man auch noch gleich Funkventile an die Heizkörper montieren, damit man nicht alle 10 Minuten dran rum drehen muss.

Darüber hab ich auch schon nachgedacht. Im Zweifelsfall käme die Zigbee-Unterstützung über eine Ikea Tretakt Steckdose. Hab ich an einer Stelle auch schon mit dem Licht so gelöst. Dann müsste ich nur halt schauen, dass der Ventilator so Platz findet, dass die vorhandene Beleuchtung nicht im Weg ist.

I can see how Explain Like I'm Five might seem right but it's usually meant for broader questions like "ELI5: why is the sky blue?" or "ELI5: can you explain that thing that is currently going on in the world?", not your homework.

Which boils down to „running an instance is hard and thankless work“ and with more users and more legal restrictions it will only get worse.

There is a middle ground between pulling up the ladder and trying to get everyone in the world on board.

Everyone who is genuinely interested is more than welcome but the fediverse is currently not equipped to handle hundreds of thousands or even millions of new users. Let the general public find their own niche and concentrate on the ones who find us on their own or through friends.

Pretty much the same here. I have an old AX41-NVMe for applications (including mail server, mastodon and lemmy) and an even older one from the server auction for files (running Nextcloud with their storage boxes as the backend seems pretty fiddly). Both have increased around 3% so I'm fine.

They did send out emails with the new pricing a couple of months ago and I saw that some newer servers and especially cloud stuff get massively expensive, though.

Buy back the house I was forced to leave a couple of years ago when my family sold it. Long term, I would undo most of the ugly renovations the new owners made. They replaced all the wood and stone with metal, plastic and concrete.

But first, I would relax in my garden or a nice bath, get in contact with old friends and ask if they need anything.
