You gotta love the copy on the Warp site. As for why they're now launching it on Linux:
Despite this, Linux has relatively few terminal options compared to Mac and Windows
...relatively few? Really?
The tech might be the same, but the models can certainly differ, and something that is trained on US-centric data gives US-centric results, which may not always be desirable.
Iain M. Banks: we're living in an AI-regulated Utopia, but the AI that we totally trust might be doing some light imperialism on the side.
Pratchett / Baxter: we're headed for some bleak imperialist nonsense, and another one, and another one, and another one, and oops, a blank...
Edit: added the Long Earth one.
If I understand this document correctly, it would mean that the entire connection somehow gets routed through Meta's servers. I can fully understand the reluctance of other parties, including Signal, to do that, and I wonder how this is actually compliant with the DMA.
I don't think "they should", but if you're willing / able to at least make a decent description of what it would entail, how it would work, and how it would benefit users, and possibly contribute in some other way, it might happen!
(It'll take more than a sentence and a half from the sidelines, I think)
A fair amount of drama is exactly their fault. Mozilla chose to increase management pay and fire people, Mozilla chose to flirt with ai, Mozilla bought an ad firm, and so on. It's not like someone was holding a knife to their throat.
I believe they're absolutely not street legal in the UK, nor in the EU. Those were never "ridiculous sized trucks" Walhalla to begin with (although I see more Rams than I care to, these days), so there's roughly zero chance those things will become mainstream here.
Heck, we have rain here, that's enough of a wankpanzer repellant.
Or being forced to find a headset somewhere because my hearing is shit and I can't make out what they're saying (and don't get me started on the auto-generated sub's).
Also, not having ads waved in my face on YouTube is a plus.
Also, I read a lot faster than the average youtuber talks.
Some things benefit from video, but tech articles tend to not fall under that category.
