Brandon Sanderson, pretty much buy anything he writes.

For all others, I now wait for the series to complete before getting the books.

I find the question interesting that if there were no libraries, could we start them today? Shows the current state of the world. Well, at least the western world. Can't say much about East, though I guess it would probably be the same.

I agree with jordanlund, and consider "comics" as reading. Just read what you enjoy, but nothing wrong with trying out different stuff and see if anything catches your fancy. For instance, I recently learned about autobiographical graphic novels, basically, they are memoirs or auto biographies, but in comic format. Persepolis and Maus are couple of famous examples.

Well, technically it's 21 series, not books. 😀

Heh.

Just checked the previous comics you posted. Nice work. Looking forward to see more of your work.

First, of all, not a leader, just a mod, trying to do my part in making lemmy a nice place for book readers. 😀

Dresden Files is a pretty fun series, but it's not some great epitome of literature. It's a fun and easy to read series, and I am realizing after reading all the comment here, it's not for everyone. Personally, I don't have much issue with that. I don't always agree with the characters of my books, but I can understand if people have issues with that. I would suggest reading a couple of books to see if they are for you.

As for where to start, I always prefer to read in published order, (which in this case is also chronological order), but as everyone else has mentioned first couple of books aren't that great. The quality improves a lot from the 3rd one. So, if you start from first one, at least read first 3 to make up your mind. Or, you can read "Dead Beat" first, and if you like it, go back and start from the first one.

If you do start reading it, would love to hear your thoughts on how you like it. You can post in our weekly what are you reading thread, or just make a separate post.

Edit: Forgot to mention, the books are pretty formulaic, (don't know if they improve further along or not), I don't think I would enjoy them reading back to back. But reading them after adding a break of one or two books is keeping them very enjoyable.

Oooh, interesting. That was my first introduction to Sanderson too. Would love to hear what you think about it.

E-book readers are great. I prefer to read physical books, but for some of the older books that are difficult to find locally, I just get the ebook.

Still have a 15 old Sony Pocket reader, without wifi or any bells and whistles. Still work like a charm though, and battery life is still pretty good. Though, I didn't use it much for about 6-7 years in the middle, and then light use for 3-4 years, but still, something like that to last 15 years, and still keep working is so nice!

Nice! It's a classic for a reason. Very different from many of it's adaptations though

I read Brandon's post where he discussed this, and he recommended it too. He said something along the lines of, The Wheel of Time turns. Ages come and pass, and this is another 3rd age, different from the 3rd age in the books, and in this age, this is how things happened.

I like the blue one.

If anyone has any recommendations, do let us know, otherwise will use that.

@JaymesRS@literature.cafe Any opinions?

Unfortunately, most of us who aren't doing the reading aren't watching educational content.

Glad to see that at least some people are using their time productively.

I have trouble with multitasking too, if I am doing anything else, I can't pay attention to what I am listening, and if I am paying attention to what I am listening, I can't pay attention to what I am doing.
