In light of the popularity of these images in response to their stunt, I'd like so share this. It discusses the Australian neo-Nazi equivalent org (the totally-for-real disbanded National Socialist Network), but the message is universal.

https://thewhiterosesociety.writeas.com/...

So let's talk about Patriot Front:

  • Leader is a trust fund kid
  • Their messaging server and other comms were repeatedly hacked
  • They unwittingly hired an antifascist to be their official photographer, which needless to say, allowed activists to gather evidence and resulted in multiple PF members losing their jobs, and attempting to sue as a result (Plaintiffs Paul Gancarz, Daniel Turetchi, Colton Brown, James Johnson, and Amelia Johnson vs. David Alan Capito II)
  • Antifascists have repeatedly ambushed them, including locating their secret car park where they hopped into a U-Haul to go to a rally
  • There are videos of them getting beaten into retreat in Philly when they tried to march
  • There are videos of the Proud Boy fascists attacking up PF-splinter members ('Rose City Nationalists') and ripping off their balaclavas
  • There was an incident where a regional leader "spent the money on drugs" [source: a neo-Nazi drama podcast called The Absolute State of White Nationalism]
  • They so poorly planned an action against an antifascist neighborhood, that when retreating, a member almost got hit by a train [same source]
  • They stopped allowing women when two of three woman members snitched (one of them cheating on a member first) [same source]
  • They stopped allowing teenagers to join (still grooming them, they just can't officially join) due to a 'homosexual femboy' incident, whatever that means [same source]
  • Their training videos show such incompetence that they literally can't turn the correct direction when marching [you can find their training videos on the Patriot Fail leak]
  • At least former one member, when identified as Dillon Oakes, tried to snitch on their org and pretend they were undercover the whole time - "While we do work with former white nationalists who sincerely want to leave the movement, Nazis who pretend to have never been Nazis to escape consequences do not qualify."

Plenty more, might add some more in replies. They're a serious issue, make no mistake, but there are far better jabs to make than "they wear masks and conservatives don't - gotcha!"

Hoarding a scarce, essential resource to make money is villain shit, yes. Get a real job, Margaret.

That said, the real villains are politicians for not outlawing housing investment. Privileged opportunists will do it until it's illegal.

Bowel cancer is now the leading cause of death in people aged 25 to 44 in Australia.

This is surprising. It wasn't even in the top 5 a couple of years ago, according to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (gov).

[edit: another article the day after says it's "the deadliest cancer for Australians aged 25 to 44", which I suspect may have been mistakenly transformed into "leading cause of death"]

If you want a crazierfuckingvideo, look what happened when the coppers came across some Muslims in the middle of prayer, including some of the protest organisers in yellow.

Antifascists, in the rare occasions where they need to mask up, hide their faces from the state (incl police) and from neo-Nazi terrorists who have murdered antifascists in the past.

Fascists hide their faces from their communities. They're such scumbags that everyday citizens know they deserve to be identified and ostracised for their personality and actions.

Thanks for rehosting the video. Cool add-on, always good to see people explaining how to do this. (yt-dlp, and friendlier tools using it under the hood, is also useful for all kinds of websites)

That police action is absolutely egregious. I've seen plenty of police violence and other abuse, but this is an example that they had to know was offensive and unnecessary. Secularism and a general freedom of religion are widely-accepted Australian national values. And to see PAG organisers among those pushed away while praying just makes it even clearer.

It's moments like this which clarify just how alienated, or simply uncaring, these officers are. At some point, they will each choose between standing with Australians or standing with governments to keep their job.

Horrific. This is horrible, I hope the ambulance are able to help all the wounded. It's important that we do what we can, as a community, to help support those affected.

The heroic response from those around, including citizens and the police, probably saved many lives, and it's important that we recognise their courage.

Why do you hate Bill Gates now?

Always have. This isn't a new concept, and their reputation laundering philanthorpism does not come close to countering the harm they and their foundation are still doing.

Hasn’t he been redistributing wealth properly?

For starters, holding around a hundred billion is hardly redistributing. That's still hoarding.

I don't have time right now to find that short-list of critiques @davel@lemmy.ml has, but in the mean time, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philanthrocapitalism is a good diving board, combined with https://en.wikipedia.org/...

No one else has even the slightest chance of gaining any influence in Australian politics.

Our ranked choice system and the existence of a crossbench means that independents and minor parties actually do have some collective influence, and furthermore, that's how we help shift the playing field for next time - look at how insignificant Greens were 20 years ago. If we want to fuck over the big three, we have to vote for someone better.

donkey vote

Don't do a donkey vote, just do an invalid or empty ballot. Preferably just put a huge line through the form. Makes it easy for election workers to know which pile to sort it in. A donkey vote is counted as a valid vote.

It's as if the Liberal Party studied at the US election and forgot to look at how their citizens, and the world for that matter, are reacting afterwards. We know what an efficiency department looks like now.

It's not news to anyone paying attention, but that weird Tesla fanatic uncle is going to find it a bit harder to rationalise an actual unambiguous world-famous Nazi gesture. We've even got those worshippers over here, and anyone reasonable who was on the fence with their pro-Musk proselyting can't overlook something this clear.

Israel is a cult? A lot of people would agree with you regarding monotheistic religions.

Israel is not a religion; it's important we differentiate Israel and Zionism from Judaism, because lots of mainstream media here has already tried to conflate them, trying to claim opposition to Israel is antisemitic (even Jewish opposition to Israel), and that actual antisemitic attacks are the fault of anti-Israel movements.

That passive headline is annoying. The guards neglected, sadistically tortured and killed Simon. Strong, active language is fine in this case.

I highly recommend reading Manufacturing Consent^[wiki]^. It's easy to find free online. It explains how mass media is systematically filtered by five major factors, the first being ownership, which is more and more relevant every year as media outlets consolidate under the ownership of billionaires like Murdoch, Bezos, Musk and Bloomberg, who have very different material class interests to the other 99.99999[...]% of the population.

The lord mayor is taking clear anti-Israel statements and falsely calling them antisemetic.

Compare this to calls for dismantling Apartheid South Africa or Nazi Germany being called anti-white. There's a clear, huge leap between denouncing a genocidal settler ethnostate and denouncing their founders' ethnicity.

The majority of the world has always been in a bad mood because 90% of planet has always been poor, struggling, doesn’t have enough, live in poverty, are hungry and are generally not happy.

On one hand, there is absolutely harsh struggle around the world for the vast majority of the world.

On the other hand, it's not as if most people are never in a good mood. Australia's state broadcaster (ABC) had a show where people in small or disadvantaged groups answer anonymous questions, and when it came to Sudanese Australian refugees, a few were saying that life in Sudan was often happier despite their material struggles. IIRC a main part was that they had a collective culture, in some places outside of the cities even a communal village culture, and where good fortune was cause for celebration. Some contrasted that with our largely individualist, money-centric culture here.

All that to say, money doesn't buy happiness, poverty doesn't guarantee sadness. Money and other resources really really help, but it's far from the whole picture.

It's great to see that more and more people are voting away from the ALP and Coalition every election. The false dichotomy rhetoric of "they're better than the other party" is just insufferable, and the US has shown us how the two-party duopoly plays out.

Investigate your candidates. Don't assume all independents and minor parties are different, many are former members of the big parties. There are plenty of resources other lovely aussies have posted in the past couple of weeks so just ask around.
