It costed nothing to say Kenya instead of Africa and Solar power revolution instead of solarpunk
While the funds pour in, yes, startup are so nice, let’s see this fully integrated vertical stack with sensor for remote shut down how evolves with time…
The same article could be done with the fediverse “solarpunk is already happening on the internet” or whatever good thing is happening in the world
Sorry I just feel like the author is sugar coating a startup, a bit de-politicizing solarpunk and looking down on Africa complexity e_e
Still an interesting read
Out of touch also in feeling like it’s funny to post this shit
Even if it was true, would still be a cringe meme.
I hope that OP is just young and naive and not an old who thinks the world is divided like that
I’ve tried using simplex but it’s simply (ahah) too slow for groups
I like it privacy wise but I think it’s better for small groups (<10) and 1 on 1 chats
Big chats are kinda a scam anyway, they should be forums lol
well, it depends on the culture of the commune but let's skip this and i'll just focus on commune as a tool
if it's used as a tool for escapism, good but it will never scale and ''everyone should be in one'' it's just impossible
if, like i dream, it's used as a tool to offload work of a group of people to allow them to make better politics because being much more resilient to capital swings, cool af u.u
obviously it's not binary and what i described it's not even a model with 2 opposites, but i wanted to focus on these cases
weird in betweens like project kamp are very interesting but I still think they focus too much on the being indipendent rather than using the commune as a tool for "greater" scope.
just answer ''thank you for the disgust sentiment, really needed that from a friend, cya''
if they say ''no'' but they lying, just treat it as a real no because people not able to be open about this are not ready for a healthy relationship
Ye and if they owned servers they would need to pay electricity and internet connections to some capitalistic operators
If they had even solar panels they’d still buy them from capitalistic companies
If they even owned solar panel production they’d still buy materials from capitalistic mines
If they’d also buy the mines they’d now need some form of army to defend them or they’d need to pay some capitalistic mercenaries company
You understand that we have to start somewhere, right?
the second they don’t have enough donations to pay the bills the messenger will seize working
It’s a bit like worrying about donations to Wikipedia or the internet archive honestly. They are so big that probably a lot of people would stop them from failing.
Ohhhh I did not expect such an endorsement :D
Ty a lot
Predictably rough start because solarpunk and even Reddit are not that famous in italy. Most of the “””scene””” is fine on telegram and discord so asking to speak more in public and less in private is gonna be hard but for the sake of free flow of information and a slower pace social media we will still try u.u
tbh i don't worry too much about datacenters because they can be built under the land, under ice, alone in the desert full of solar panels and so on. the heat in the winter can also be used to heat houses if it's in the city..
the sad part is that most of that energy is used for bullshit tasks for surveillance capitalism.

I never read “VC funded” as someone who donated money and also was a VC. To me it’s always Venture capitalists investments asking for power and margin returns. Hence also it makes the product much more prone to enshittify to keep the numbers go up
Signal is none of this but yes, got a headstart by someone who happens to be also a VC a rich person?
Edit: I edit because I cannot find anything that links Acton to vc activities actually 🤔
“Italy bans” 🙃 I didn’t know that Reuters makes clickbaits

Some days ago the premier talked shit about a Manifesto just to make noise about something else and now this
I feel like the political discourse is at a level: dogs running around to take sticks they throw at us, always following never leading…
I won’t read their paper because every kind of DAO is the same in the end so I can generalize it.
They probably use a DAO form to raise money from people giving them back a token that allows them a form of digital ownership. Basically is what an association or a cooperative can do but if they do not actually build that coop or org it just stays a useless token in front of the law. Are they conscious of it? Who knows. Is it good? Ehhh, only if the people behind it are actually iron willed and will keep the mission in front of earnings because, as I said, legally the ownership is on them and not on all the token owners.
I’d avoid it. There are a lot of ways to pay associations to plant trees or ensure wildlife while also not feeding a bullshit machine :)
it's not that weird from my perspective. the post was kinda a rant so it baited people that are not really ready to discuss but just felt like having to point out their perspective in a defensive way
break the chain my friends, we can do better
Simplex is vc funded and doesn’t have a business model so nobody knows if it will ever be sustainable, I won’t pass any of my chats to it until they figure out their stuff.
Tuta too is for profit even if not vc funded. So the risk of easily getting sold is always there and tbh I don’t like giving money to for profit vertical companies unless necessary.
Btw no company is anti compliance. They fight in court but in the end they will comply, they have to…
Also: Italy, could you please clean your fucking shit up?
Did you miss the rally to show the will for a stronger European Union? And the “fight” to not use starlink? And people joking about the letters sent by DOGE? It’s not like everything is going downhill here, don’t be like a cocky American who reads some ragebaits headlines on social networks and thinks to know the world
I think we should write more about solarpunk itself so I’m glad for your post, thank you
Said that, I would have added at least one disclaimer about solarpunk games intended as games produced in a more solarpunk way: stuff like no DRM, avoiding dark patterns, being a cooperative or being owned by a foundation and much more.
Let me underline the “just a disclaimer”, I know you wanted to focus on the content and what I said would need basically another full post
Again, love your initiative and I hope more people will follow you 🙏
thanks for using Leebra!
