How does one mute an entire instance?
@lemmy.world
Yeah, that would be cool. Right now we only have 3 options: All, Local, or Subscribed. I'd love a submenu that let me generate an individualized feed based on multiple subscriptions that I grouped together, and also let me name & save these feeds.
There are apps for Lemmy! I'm finding the app much nicer to use on my phone than accessing lemmy thru a browser, which is what I'm guessing you're doing based on your description of using a "shortcut."
Ohhhhh, that was an interesting nugget of information that I didn't previously understand. Thank you for sharing that.
So, the only way to keep a bad actor registered in your instance from flaming in another one would be to revoke their account completely, then?
Other servers probably need to be able to block individual users from posting anywhere on their instance if we don't want to end up as mostly disfederated, isolated servers.
Fair warning: if you use a script or bot to edit comments, most of your subreddits will ban you for doing so. They apparently either have tools to detect this, or else the users left behind are sensitive to it and are reporting it.
Source: I did this, and am now banned from my favorite communities on reddit.
Upside: I don't care, because I'm not going back, anyway, and now most of my comments have been overwritten.
Downside: The script I used missed editing TONS of comments, so I ended up editing and deleting hundreds of comments by hand anyway. (I commented a LOT, apparently! π€£)
Try the Jerboa app! I haven't had any problems with it at all (the Mlem app is for ios). You can use the direct link to the Google Play store (in green below app description) off the lemmy app page linked below. It's official and everything. I like it much better than the browser version. π
Please don't pun-ish me for this opinion, but I always got a kick out of the pun chains, and occasionally even participated. π€£
I don't know about anyone else, but for me it was never about upvotes. It was just for the love of a good joke, and enjoyment of some harmless comic relief. And if I wasn't in the mood for it, a tap would collapse the entire thread, so I could continue reading for the real content if that's what I wanted.
The posts I hated most were the repost bots (the worst!) and people making low-effort arguments that came from a place of ignorance, or were just a hive-mind pile-on.
If lemmy gets big enough, the pile-ons will happen here as well, because...humans, lol. But I'm down for enjoying the unique nature of the smaller, more thoughtful community for as long as it lasts!
Not only that, but this federated model means that participants in any instance could potentially petition their instance's owner to block any other instance that has been totally taken over by toxic nazis. (If the instance owner didn't already choose to do it on her own, of course!)
Also, any user who disagrees with the instance-owner's decisions about who to be in federation with is always free to join a different instance, managed by an owner who is making decisions more in line with what that user desires.
I can't get over how unutterably sane I think the federation model is. I just want to hug every single person who thought this up and helped implement it! β€οΈ I literally cannot think of a better, more fair, large-scale system for community conversation.
This is a known bug that developers are working on, if I understand correctly from reading other posts. Thet seem to be saying that if your subscription has shown up on your profile, you're good to go, and can ignore the "pending" status.
thanks for using Leebra!
