Yes, you're absolutely correct! More AI would help keep Lemmy fun -- and informative -- and increase engagement. Would you like me to show you how to integrate your current service with Lemmy? Just type "Yes" and I'll give you simple and easy to follow instructions.

And, why is it always folk like him telling everyone else what they should be doing? They act like they're the ones running the show and we all need to do what we're told. If AI takes his job, will he be retraining as a plumber?

I wonder how long it will take for shareholders to experiment with replacing CEOs with agentic AIs. They'd certainly be good at spouting crap like Jensen is doing.

I know it's only a joke, but this comment highlights something that many folk in power seem to forget.

Houses and their doormats are in a single physical location that has an unambiguous legal jurisdiction. In any given country, if you break into a house you are subject to that country's laws.

Not so with the Internet. It's very difficult to legislate for something like this because other countries' laws can just ignore you, and you have no power over those countries and their laws. So, making things physically secure is far more effective than legislation, especially when it comes to the Internet.

The trouble is, in this market most people would rather complain about their job than complain that they have nothing to eat and can't pay their mortgage.

Whilst I agree with your statement, the research is using this as a measure of wealth inequality. 20 years ago a sudden windfall equal to 38 years of the average salary would put you in the top 10 percent. Now it would take 52 years. It's illustrating the change in wealth gap.

When asked why God would do such a thing, the answer is usually "To test your faith".

I was brought up Christian as a child, and went to church, but this answer is a prime example of what ultimately turned me away. Such behaviour didn't fit the image of God in my mind. My version of God was pure, loving and trustworthy, and wouldn't scatter "tests of faith" and other such trickery around my world.

Putin also knows how strong Europe would be with Ukraine, which is likely why he is so hell bent on destabilising the bloc and taking Ukraine for himself. The sad part is it seems to be working for him. Even if he doesn't get Ukraine the way he hoped, the campaign to destabilise the bloc is worrying.

Exactly. Us Linux users, as a collective, tend to shoot ourselves in the foot here because we can't decide on the "best" distro for beginners. If we all just said one thing, with confidence and without arguments, and without saying "it depends...", more would probably make the switch.

No major outlets that the average user would frequent are likely to sell laptops with any Linux distro pre installed. Many non-technical users wouldn't even reinstall Windows by themselves, let alone Linux.

Any of the usual starter distros would be a good choice because once they are in the ecosystem they can find their own path. When a non technical person asks how to get Linux, there is no worse answer than a barrage of information followed by more questions. Just pick one, say it confidently, and assist them to make it happen.

Bisexuality usually refers to sexual preference, alongside homosexuality and heterosexuality. Shouldn't this post be referring to the flower as hermaphroditic rather than bisexual?

This is funny, but would be more accurate if it said "MAGA Christians" instead of "White Christians".

I'm an atheist and most of the Christians I know are pretty accepting. It's almost as if they respect the teachings of Jesus and aspire to be more like him, unlike all too many MAGA Christians.

The most recent info I can find (2020) is that he's using a Threadripper. I daresay he might have upgraded it by now, but it should give an idea what he goes after. There are a few links from reputable sources around that time, here's one.

The way Mastodon and federated stuff works, it's a shame more organisations don't host their own Mastodon instances for their official announcements instead of Xitter and Facebook. They don't really take that much admin as only employees would need accounts to post. The BBC is trialling this I believe.

Another reason they choose to demonise immigrants is because they can spin rhetoric that energises the working and middle classes together, like a 2-for-1 deal.

They convince the working classes that immigrants are stealing their jobs and abusing benefits. They convince the middle classes that immigrants cause more crime.

They have influence over social media algorithms to ensure that each demographic gets the message that most infuriates them.

Finally, with all the hate stirred up, their chosen political allies/pets can make a promise to crack down on immigration and gain the votes for both demographics in one go.

True. And, frustratingly, it's a 20 year digital archive that's in the care of a single for-profit corporation. At least if it was a federated platform the archive would be spread about without a single entity having full control.

It's still an odd way to compare temperatures:

  • Double of 1 degree is 2 degrees, so not very different.
  • Double of 30 degrees is 60 degrees, so wildly different.
  • Double of -20 degrees is -40 degrees, so a lot colder instead of warmer.
