When I watched MKBHDs video on this, my first thought was whether or not we could selfhost a service like this. If I could run this through my own Mac mini server to my own / family’s phones, that would be great. I don’t think I’d ever feel comfortable logging into my iCloud account on some company’s server with just their pinky promise as a guarantee.

I just recently read an article about Overdrive and KKR, the company that bought both Overdrive and now this publisher. It was a really disheartening read for what’s happening in the books market.

I had no idea that they even still did this. I assumed it ended years ago. Interesting.

This is fascinating! Great TIL!

Chinese products. After living there for a decade, I now actively try and avoid buying products made there—or Chinese companies—at the least.

As someone who hasn’t personally done any of these tests but whose relatives (aunts/cousins) have, does anyone know how much of my personal information is now up for sale?

Thank you for linking this. I read through it all, and as an avid Libby user, what quite disheartened. I just checked to see if my library has any other ebook options, but they don’t.

While I agree in my dislike for the current Republican Party, the attitude of blindly voting for your team because the other is evil is exactly what my (late) fox-addicted grandfather used to uphold. I loved the man, but I think we ought to do better and do the hard work of researching every candidate and choosing the best, be it democrat, republican, or independent.

Cool! Hopefully they get to use them this time. I’m really curious as to how the hot staging will turn out.

Does anyone know if this is common for US rockets or not? I didn’t see too much info on it after a cursory Google search.

Edit: never mind, figured it out. It’s the star icon on the top left.

This is unfortunate. I just bought one a couple months ago but haven’t even opened it yet.

Interesting. Living in Korea, I knew immediately what news site that was linking to.

I’m on the same page. The republicans need some feedback that what they’re doing isn’t going to win elections. Unfortunately I think it will take losing several more elections to sink in.

I agree. One of the first communities I looked for was a substitute for daddit. Let us know if you find / end up creating something.

That is fascinating. Thanks for the link.

Do people say both parties are equally bad? I’d agree that both parties are bad, but ‘equally’? Maybe a decade ago, but not anymore.

Is there a way to view my list of communities that I’ve subscribed to? When clicking on “community” in the bottom right, it brings up settings.

The Book That Wouldn’t Burn by Mark Lawrence

I still struggle with 1. paedobaptism and 2. the Churches assumption of Israel’s promises. I was raised very dispensationalost, and I see some of the weaknesses of that theological framework, and yet I still find it to be very compelling.
